Chapter 6- Finally
On the way to the restaurant
The car ride to the restaurant was a bit awkward. There was something up with Nick that he wasn’t telling me. I can feel something in the air. He seemed a bit nervous or something.
"So... Nick, what’s up? Why do you want to suddenly eat out tonight?" I asked playfully. Trying to see what he’s hiding.
"Up? Nothing much, I just want to eat out." he said.
“Hmm… ok if you say so. Where are we eating?” I asked again.
“Just wait and see. We’ll be there in a minute” he said, slightly smiling and looked at me.
With that, I stopped asking him I may be too paranoid in thinking that something is up so I played with his phone instead. I know it’s wrong to look at other peoples inbox without their permission but I was just too curious to know who he has been texting so I opened it. The first few messages was from me, there were also a few texts from his friends, but what catches my attention was a significant name that I kept on seeing, the name was Ann.
I know Ann is his crush since he was a freshman. We sometimes tend to fight because of my jealousy to her so out of curiosity, I opened one message:
Hi Nic
I can’t believe you’re still with her!! When are you planning on telling her?!
Update me soon!
Xoxo
My heart pounded fast in my chest and I felt panicky. Is it true? The topic my friends and I had earlier is true? He doesn’t want me anymore? I turned off the phone and placed it on my lap with the single rose he had given me. I was so confused. Then what is with dinner if he doesn’t like me anymore? Is this my last rose from him? Would this be my last date with him? Did he finally have gotten together with his long time crush? Above all the things that was going through my mind, one was the loudest. What am I in his life?
“Mia?” said Nick.
With that I snapped out of my thinking. “Yes?” I said.
“We’re here. I’ve told you twice already but you seem to be lost in thought. Is everything ok?” he asked with a worried expression on his face.
I was so preoccupied with my thoughts and millions of things were popping out of my mind that I didn’t noticed that we have arrived at the restaurant.
“Yeah” I said. “I’m Fine” and cast him a smile.
Nick just nodded and smiled at me. He quickly got out of the car to go to my door to open it for me. I took a deep breath and tried to calm myself. Whatever happens happens. I’ll just enjoy myself tonight with his company. I told myself and with that I put a smile on my face and took his hand that he offered me when he opened the door.
The restaurant that he took me to was not that fancy and has a homey feeling to it which is nice because it relaxes me. When we got to our table, Nick helped me sit down before he sat opposite to me. The waiter gave us the menus and asked us what our drink would be. Since we’re not yet legal to drink any alcohol and I don’t like soda that much I ordered a lemonade and Nick did the same. The waiter nodded and told us that he would be with us shortly to take our orders, and with that he left to get our drinks.
“Mia” Nick said once the waiter left. “You’ve been quiet since we got here, is there anything wrong?”
I smiled at him and said, “No! Nothing’s wrong, I was just thinking about something that’s all.”
