My eyelashes fluttered. I slowly opened my heavy lids, a sharp ringing zigzagging through my pounding head. The stone floor to the left of me was stained with blood. So much blood.

The stars looked different in the ink blot of sky. They were sharp and bright, like melting chips of ice. I imagined the stars leaking down to Jamaa, as dreams and hopes and wishes. I closed my weary eyes in contempt.

I was woken up seconds later by a hushed, angry voice. I quickly sat up.

Or, I tried to.

My vision danced and swirled, and vertigo overtook me. I emitted a soft, quiet moan.

"What was that?" Said a smooth, silky voice.

"I don't know. Maybe just the corpses talking." I froze in fear. That was the voice of the main Arctic wolf from the announcements slaughter.

"Haha. Very funny. I thought I ordered some repulsively orange elephant to get those out of here. Anyways..."

I didn't stick around to hear the last part of the sentence.

I painstakingly lifted my bloody, bruised, and matted body up, and forced my sore legs to run. Run under the piercing starlight, run under the fragile swirl of a billion bejeweled worlds, run under the obsidian expanse of the heavens. I stopped at dawn, tripping over fat, ancient roots.

I groaned, and lifted my head, and most of my crumpled body. I came face to face with the curious Arctic wolf that stole my ring.

Sorry this chapter is so short! Longer ones are coming, I promise. This is just basically a set up to introduce the mysterious wolf that stole Windy's ring. Enjoy your day!
