Chapter 4

*Jeffrey's Point of View*

I jumped awake to the sound of loud banging on my front door which had me confused. I slowly got out of bed and yelled I was coming. Now why was someone at my door at this time of day no one ever visits me and Phoenix always invites herself in so who was it. I hit my knee on a side table not far from where I slept and yelp in the pain.

The banging continued and I yelled to tell them to stop. I past the door frame of the room where Dante slept and he was sprawled out on the bed like if there was no tomorrow. I couldn't blame him I would be like that too if I didn't slept in a bed for months.

I reached the door and unlatching it, swinging it out open afterwards. My eyes landed on a man with a long brown beard and had a long wooden staff holding him up straight. "May I help y-?" I was asking but was cut off when he answered my question."The Elders has asked for your audience." He said in an unfriendly, stern voice as he stared me down. My eyes widen as the words fell from his mouth.'The Elders want to see me out of all people but why?' The thought danced on my brain as my gears turn trying to think of the solution.

"May I ask why they ask for me?"

The man turned up his nose in disgust as if I offended him."You dear question the Elders' request, ungrateful bastard." He said rudely. My heart felt like if a knife scrapped it when I heard those two words "ungrateful bastard". I looked up at him roughly trying not to give him a piece of my mind."No, it's just a surprise they asked for me they never asked for me before so I was curious not questioning it." I replied bitterly with hate edging off my tongue. His expression harden but I knew I struck a nerve which made me proud for standing up for myself."You had brought an intruder into the city without recantation and you are asked to bring him with you and you will be judge that's all I can say." He said raising his chin a bit.'Oh no I forgot to bring him to the Elders. Oh shit they might think I brought an assassin in or something. Everyone has been on their high horses ever since the incident with the Elders in Via. Someone snuck an assassin in to kill the Elders and take their place but were caught in the act and were executed. I might hate the people here but I would never do that.'.

"Ok, I'll be right out with him." I said slamming the door in his face. Turning around I leaned onto the door putting myself in deep thought. After I thought it over I bounced off the door and walked into the room Dante rested. I kicked his bed to wake him up and in success he jumped at my gesture."Wake up we have an audience with the Elders." I stated bluntly. I was still upset with how he was yesterday but I still had to help him. Dante's eyes flutter open and he looked at me with ember eyes."What?" He asked with a hoarse voice."The Elders want to see you so come." I said holding out my hand for him.

He looked at my hand and took it reluctantly. I helped him up, he hissed in pain due to the wounds he had but he looked like he was baring them well."Can you walk?" I asked studying him up and down."I think so." He said while trying to walk away from me. He stumbled a few times making me go to his side but he waved me away and said he'll be fine. I sighed in disbelief and walked to my wardrobe and picked out some clothes and slid them on.

I looked back at Dante who was standing straight now and was slowly making his way to me."See I'm f-ah."He yelled as he stumbled into me. I caught him unexpectedly making our lips brush a bit. I jumped at the slight contact and stiffen. Me and Dante stared at each other in silence for a good moment before he broke it."Sorry about that." He said reassuringly. I shock myself out of the daze to reply."Um...yea it's cool." I said straightening him a bit helping him stand properly.

"Come on let's go." Was all I could say after that moment. Surprisingly it felt kind of weird but not in a bad way.
