Previously:  As we began to eat, we lapsed into an easy conversation about school, family, friends, music…and then the conversation entered dangerous territory when a group of year nine and ten girls come running through the doors with One Direction T-Shirts on, screaming ‘One Direction Is Awesome!’ and Ollie just HAD to add in ‘AND GAY’.

They all stop suddenly to glare at him, clearly pissed and VERY aggravated at his dry comment. The oldest of the group stepped forward, her eyebrows curving into a ‘V’ as she gives him the best evils ever.

‘Don’t you DARE call them gay.’  She warned harshly.

Ollie stood up from his seat and brushed his pants, readying himself for a showdown or something.

‘Ollie-don’t-‘

I couldn’t finish my warning, as he had already taken a step closer to the girl, and they were now standing millimetres away from each other, the girl in intense aggravation, and Ollie in a laid back, ‘Try me’ sort of manner.

Oh shiiit. Ollie has been known to lose his cool when he’s being challenged, and trust me, this won’t go down well. At Intermediate School (Middle school), Ollie was the same calm person that he is today, except the very few times he loses his temper, he really goes wild.

‘No, Iz, I will.’ He said to me, holding his hand up to cut me off.

‘These girls asked for it. Now, we’re talking five boys, all good looking, all in a band, travelling around the world together all touchy-feely with each other. How can you say they aren’t gay?’

His words stung.

The older girl grunted, before saying;

‘So you’re saying that any male that sings and hangs out with other guys is gay? Well tell me this. Those boys have a dream- a dream to sing. A dream to be known, to make music their life. They followed that dream, and they are out there as we speak, earning far more money that you could ever make in a lifetime, and they’re making millions of fans happy. How is that being gay? Because if you ask me, I think they’re more manly than you will ever be, because they wouldn’t pick a fight with a girl, and they wouldn’t judge a book they haven’t even freaking read, and they CERTAINLY won’t make fun of someone else out of jealousy, just like you are doing right now.’

Wow, this girl has a point.

Ollie looked taken aback. And to be honest, my mind AND heart had already sided with the fans- sorry Ollie.

‘The songs they sing are gay, the way they dress is gay, and the fans they attract are even worse. I think you’re just a wannabe, like all the other fans. Wanting attention or some shit. But let me tell you this. Nobody in this room will ever meet One Direction. Ever. I can guarantee it. So why don’t you just go home and cry over your little gay poster and-’

‘Oliver Reston! Shut the f*** up!’ I yelled at him sternly.

Yeah thats right, I can be a tough kid when I need to.

By now the girl was crying, and her friends looked shocked and a little hurt, too.

Ollie just looked…pissed. And surprised I’d taken their side.

‘Iz, why are you defending them?’ He said the word ‘them’ with disgust clear in his voice.

‘I’m defending them because they are ALLOWED to like One Direction, and they can like them all they want. You know, I thought you were better than this’ I gestured towards this whole scene he had caused.

‘I thought you were the sort of guy who respected everyone’s opinions. But you’ve changed. And believe me, it’s not for the better.’
