I turned the television on and the six o'clock news flashed on screen.
‘And now we will hand over to Hilary to announce the latest news.’
‘Thank you John. The famous Boy Band “One Direction” has announced their next concert will be in New Zealand this month. The first two concerts will be in Auckland at the Waitakere Trust stadium, and the others will be in Wellington.
Their tickets are for sale online at Ticket Direct, and the prices are predicted to be around $60. They will begin to be sold at 1 o’clock in the morning, and are expected to sell out very fast.’
They then interviewed a few teenaged girls who were already waiting anxiously by their laptops…even though it was only 6 o’clock. Wow, I guess I better be ready then, huh?
Within an hour I had set up my laptop on my bed, gathered a bunch of snacks and sat them around the room so that I don’t have to leave the computer, and I also collected a few DVD’s to watch while I wait.
Almost three movies later, I decided to have a bit of a lay down on my bed, just to get a bit of rest. It was 12:15, and I was already very tired. I usually only stay up until 10. This was crazy.
....
I closed my eyes. Bad mistake.
....
My eyes shot open as I searched for my alarm clock. It read 1:10. Shit! The tickets have been on sale for ten minutes already!
I quickly opened my laptop in a fluster and opened up the ticket direct webpage.
Come on, come on. Load faster, PLEASE!
I scrolled down to see the words I had feared the most; ‘tickets have been sold out’.
ARGH.
I shut my laptop, crawled back into bed, created an igloo of blankets over my head and silently cried myself to sleep. This was the one thing I wanted. I was SECONDS too late.
Why does life keep doing this to me?
