-Adriana P.O.V-
"Stop the car!! You're going way too fast and you're drunk! You're going to lose control!!" My seventeen year old sister Anastasia shrieks as my drunken mother zips down deserted streets, zigzagging over lanes carelessly. I can hear the fear in her high-pitched voice - but she tries to sound undaunted.
"Ah.. Anastasia.. Shut the hell up.. I am definitely not drunk.. I only had a c-couple sips of vodka.." My mother slurs, her words barely understandable. More like a couple galleons. Even from the back seat, I can smell the alcohol on her breath. I can see my sister fidgeting with her hands, tears threatening to spill from her bright green eyes.
I am too outraged to speak. I'm used to my mother drinking unearthly amounts of booze, but I have never been in a situation like this before. How could she put so many lives at risk? My mother had dragged us both to the bar with her. Apparently it was for 'life experience'. Translation: she wanted drinking buddies. My father was supposed to pick us up and get us all home safely, but my mother, wasted, had ditched him at the bar and decided to drive us herself, claiming that she was responsible enough to take care of her own kids. We all knew better.
The woman whom I am forced to call my mother repetitively abused my sister and I until we agreed to get into my father's green Nissan. That's the way she got us to do things for the past 13 years. We had no other choice, because my father had left us with her in frustration. Now, here we are at 3am, heading at 120 miles per hour through the dark, towards the unknown.
"If you don't stop this goddamn car right now, I swear to God I'll do it for you." I growl through my straight, white teeth. I am too angry to be afraid right now. If something were to happen to my older sister on my mother's behalf, I would hate her more than I already do - if that's even possible.
I can see the faint dots of two headlights in the distance. They're headed our way. My breathing becomes shallow and my heart rate heightens. I feel the adrenaline rushing through my veins.
"I am your mother.." She begins, her head lolling from side to side.
The dots become larger.
"M-mom pl-please!" My sister stutters. Obviously she can see the headlights, too.
"You do not s-speak to your mother that way.." She slurs once again, still in her drunken haze.
The dots become brighter.
"Mom!! Pull over!!" Anastasia's voice is frantic now. Her body shakes with fear.
"You're both worthless.." She says, her voice rising in anger. "I WILL NEVER LOVE YOU.." She screeches.
The dots are now large spheres of light shining into the windshield, becoming larger and brighter every second.
"STOP!!!" Anastasia cries, complete terror and desperation coming loose into her voice.
"AND I NEVER DID!!" Our mother flails her arms all over the place, letting go of the wheel. She slumps against her seat, passed out.
The spheres of light are now like two blinding suns headed towards our uncontrollable car, flying at top speed. Anastasia is screaming a deafening screech, and then I realize that I am, too.
