A running joke formed, where Matt would throw Sky in the river.

It wasn't much of a river, really. The water didn't move very quickly, and it wasn't overwhealmingly wide. There was nothing special about the river, except that it was the only known flowing body of water in the Fourth dimension.

Despite that, Sky would do or say something dumb, and Matt would scoop her up and dump her in the river. Obviously, she'd grab his arm or his foot and pull him in with her. They'd laugh, and climb out of the river, drenched.

Little did Sky want to admit that by this time, she'd started to notice Matt's physicaly appearance. She noticed his habbits, the way he ran his hand through his hair to get it out of his face, the way his dark eyes had different shades when the sun hit them, the way he stayed all nice and lean and attractive without really trying. Against all odds, she'd become attracted to Matt.

But obviously, in her mind there was no chance that the feeling was mutual. Matt was closed off, and generally unfriendly (mostly to strangers). He could never have feelings for her.

Oh, how ever wrong she was.

Matt had gotten to the point where he enjoyed Sky's presence. Quite frankly, he looked forward to seeing her everyday He loved it when she smiled or laughed, espcially when he was the cause of it. She was the only person he thought of as a friend.

And once he let himself enjoy her presence, he began to notice, too; it's not like she was ugly. Actually, she would be considered hot.

Matt preffered to think she was beautiful.

It was a normal day.

Matt and Sky were lying by the river, looking up at the clouds.

Really, they were drying off after a "swim" in the river.

Sky admitted that she didn't have the imagination to see shapes in the clouds. Matt agreed, and pointed to a cloud, saying, "That one looks like a cotton ball."

Sky laughed, and the two of them started calling out cloud-shaped clouds. "That one looks like a bunny tail!"
"That one looks shockingly like a cloud.

Finally, Matt pointed at a cloud and said, "That one looks like you!" Sky only laughed. "It looks like a blob to me."

"Exactly!"

Sky hit Matt's arm, laughing.

He chuckled slightly. "You know I'm joking." Sky just smiled, laughing again. The two looked at each other for a moment. "You know?" Sky said, a slight smile on her face, "You may just be the best thing that's ever happened to me."

There was a pause. Matt smiled slightly, and said, "I could say the same to you."

They just sat and looked at each other for a moment. Both of them had a slight, somewhat sheepish smile at the revelation of that information. Neither of them had lied, of course.

And then, something completely unexpected happened.

Matt kissed Sky.

And after a shocked moment, she kissed him back.

Most history books don't record the sweetness of the moment. The way Matt's hand lifted and gently rested against her cheek, and the description of how Sky's face flushed, a rare phenominon. And this book won't either-

except it already did.

Matt pulled away from the kiss, and looked at a flustered Sky. Matt had a slightly sheepish smile on his face, watching as Sky fumbled for words.

"Matt," she finally spoke, her voice a tangle of shock and awe, "I think I'm falling in love with you..."

Slowly, Matt's face broke into a grin. "I am so glad to hear you say that."

There was a pause. Matt broke the silence:

"I love you, Sky."
