I go back into my house and call Mira down to tell her that the neighbors are home. She runs down the stairs, grabs the cookies and heads out the door. She knocks on their door and a man about my fathers age opened the door.

"Hi we noticed you moved in the other day and my sister wanted to bring you cookies."

"Thank you, I saw you met Bryce earlier."

"Yeah." He bends down to Mira and asks,

"How old are you?" She looks at her fingers and hold up seven. I grab her hand and put one more up. "I have a son your age. Would you like to meet him?" She nods and he calls his son down.

He runs down the stairs and screams, "COOKIES!" He notices Mira and he hides behind his father.

"This is Jackson. Jackson this is.. I'm sorry I didn't catch your names."

"I'm Lyla and this is Mira."

"I apologize he is a little shy."

"It's fine. We just wanted to welcome you to the neighborhood. It is very nice everyone around here is kind the school system is great too. I hope you enjoy your new home." I walk back home with Mira and go to my room. I'm still wrapped in my towel, I decided to change into a tank top and some shorts. I go down stairs to tell my father about dinner at the neighbors tonight.

"You don't even know these people," he hiccups and takes another drink of his beer. He is drunk as usual.

"They are very nice. You don't have to go if you don't want to, I can just take Mira." He stands up and grabs my arm. He smacks me across the face and pushes me away.

"Watch your attitude," he hiccups again.

"Yes sir," tears are now welling in my eyes, "may I go tonight?"

"Yes but come home as soon as your done. You need to get to bed because you'll be cleaning all day tomorrow."

"Thank you sir," I say quietly and walk up to my room.

"What happened?" I hear a voice say.

I look over to my window and see Bryce standing across from mine. I turn around quickly and say "Nothing."

"That doesn't look like nothing," he jumps through his window and gets into my room. He grabs my arm and I flinch. I look into his hazel eyes that meet my green ones that are starting to fill with tears. "So want to tell me what happened?"

"I ran into something."

"Something shaped like a hand?"

"Yeah doesn't that happen to you all the time?"

"Never."

"Well if you don't leave I might run into it again,"

I start to push him towards the window. He jumps back into his room and says, "Well be over in ten for dinner and I'll be right back."

He runs out of his room and suddenly he is under our windows. He grabs a thick branch and runs back inside.

"What are you doing?"

"It's kinda hard to get my body through a five foot gap without falling 25 feet, so I grabbed a branch so its easier."

"Well don't forget to move it. I'm going to get ready, see you in ten." I close my window which is resting on the branch and close my blinds. I put on my favorite blue dress and some black flats. I put simple make-up on and headed out the door with Mira. I knock on their door and someone else opens it.

"You must be Lyla, you can take a seat at the table."

"Thank you," I walk into their house it is very nice even with the boxes and plastic wrapped furniture. I sit down at the table with Mira and Bryce and his father walk out of the kitchen with two plates of food. They sit them down on the table and we start to eat on the very fancy paper plates. I soon noticed Mira staring at Jackson. Jackson met her gaze and both of their faces turned bright red but he didn't break eye contact. We talk about a few things and finally finish dinner I realize me and Mira have to go and as soon as I stand up there is a knock on the door. Mr. Kovitz answers it and tears were over flowing my eyes.
