Six days had passed since Tayo was scammed and Emeka still hadn't said nothing, she didn't know if he was ignoring her for fear of telling her he couldn't help or because he really thought he needed space from her, as it seemed she had become a thorn in his skin with her incessant plea for help. Tayo did really feel stupid herself for disturbing him.
It was Sunday and Tayo woke up quiet early to get prepared for church. She finished her preparations and headed out to church. The walk to church was filled with thoughts, thoughts about the audition, thoughts about how to get the fees, thoughts about why life seemed against her.
Church service was great, at least she smiled a couple of times. Church felt like home, she could always get solace in the church because God and her most cherished friends were there.
Tayo spent most part of her day in church, she knew coming home early after the service would serve her nothing but give her time to brood so she stayed back in church for rehearsals. When rehearsals was done, she definitely had to go.
Tayo got home and quickly plugged her phone to charge. NEPA had smiled so hard she thought and had given them light.
Tayo removed her church clothes and changed into something less fitting. She had lunch and then rested a bit. Tayo decided to go grab her best friend who she thought might be feeling lonely now, her phone. She went in to pick her phone to check for any calls she might have missed. Tayo most times had her phone on silent mode so she could secretly pick her calls when ever she didn't want mama questioning her.
There were no missed calls but there were messages. Tayo had a habit of ignoring SMS since they always came from her network provider, most times reminding her that she had insufficient balance to subscribe. She noticed an unknown number among the messages and decided to check.
" Congratulations! You are among the 20
selected for CU Workshop. Kindly reply
this SMS now by sending us your
whatsap num to enable you join our
WhatsApp group for more info".
Tayo was inundated. She couldn't believe her eyes or contain the joy. She ran to mama who was in the sitting room as fast as she could.
"Mummy, dem choose me, dem choose me"
Tayo's happiness had been rekindled. Demola was right after all, she needed to take the chance. She made a mental note to remember to thank him.
The week really had been bad, but Tayo felt compensated, she felt God wanted a little smile on her face and made her receive this, for she thought within her that she didn't deserve this. She hadn't been the best of His children but He was merciful and wanted her happy. Grace spoke for her, unmerited favour.
