Artist: Britney Spears

Words: 780

The neon blue sign of the motel  flickers brightly a few feet away as Drew holds my hand. The only sounds that can be heard are the subtle slapping sounds of my flip flops and the jiggling of keys as Drew twirls them with his fingers. The sounds come to a subtle stop as we stand in front of the tall metal gate. He lets go of my hand for a moment to put the key in it's lock. Twisting it to the right slightly, the click can be heard, and we step inside the gates. I'm two steps ahead of him so I look back to see him slowly walking behind me.

"Where did you get the keys to the pool?" I ask him as I undid the buttons of my flannel shirt. Two sizes too big, it looks like I have nothing underneath.

"I stole them from the owner." His lopsided smile shows no signs of guilt or remorse as he pulls his shirt over his head and tosses it to the side along with the silver keys.

Taking off my shorts, I throw them behind me. I approach the edge of the pool, removing each flip flop one by one until I'm left in only my white lace underwear. The neon sign can be seen in the distance, reflecting a soft blue glow on my skin before changing colors to pink, then green, and then back to blue.

Drew's changing at a slower speed as he's only undoing the buttons of his black jeans. When he glances at me , I send him a wink before jumping into the pool. The cool temperature of the water sends a shiver through my spine but it quickly disappears as soon as I fully submerged my head underwater.

I motion for him to come join me before pushing the wet hair covering my face back to my ears. He steps back and then runs to the pool, jumping at the last second into the water. The splash wets my face and the floor.

"We're gonna get caught if we make too much noise." I state lightly, slowly splashing him again.

"I don't care, let's take the risk." His hand moves to my waist, pulling me closer to him. My hand moves to his chest, touching his tan skin before moving to his hair. I twirl the long strand around my fingers for a second or two before putting it back behind his ear, making sure to look at him in the eye. His blue eyes meet my brown ones as he leans in, giving me a kiss. Moving slowly, my arms go down to his check, remaining stationary while my feet tread the water.

"Your mascara's running." Drew says, his thumb gliding across my cheek after we separate. The now pink light illuminates on his skin, making him look like an angel in the moment.

"I know. I forgot to apply my waterproof one."

Shaking his head slightly, the smile remains on his face as he kisses me again, his soft lips caressing my own. His other hand remains on my back, his finger making small circles along my spine. Sending several kisses to my neck, I pull myself closer to him and smell his skin. The light scent of perfume clings to his skin, despite being in the water. The smell of the sickly sweet perfume makes me lightheaded so I shake my head slightly to get rid of the smell. The flowery scent is nothing like his usual peppermint one or my own perfume. Taking a closer look at his neck, a purple bruise sits almost covered by his long hair. Retracting from him, he scrunches his eyebrows in confusion. Putting my arms back to my side, he asks, "What's wrong?"

I remain silent, trying to form my thoughts together. A million thoughts circle around my mine before I finally decide on one and say, "I have to go."

He tries to catch my wrist, but I swim to the edge and pull myself up. Grabbing my flip flops and the rest of my clothes I start to leave the pool, leaving him in it.

"What's wrong?" He asks more frantically as he leaves the water and follows me.

Giving him one last look I say, "I trusted you."

He stands still, not understanding what went wrong as I leave the area and into the street. The water drops onto the floor, leaving stains on the ground as I move. A stray tear escapes and mixes with the other droplets of water before falling on the floor. I move forward and continue walking, not knowing what went wrong.
