I'm sorry if there are any typo errors. I fainted in school the day before I completed this chapter so I might be a little careless while writing.
Hope you enjoyed!
I woke up the next day, lethargy coursing through my blood as though someone had injected me with it. For all I knew, someone probably did.
I hadn't felt this tired before. I didn't do anything exhausting yesterday, did I? I slept quite early.
Groaning, I rolled out of bed and stood up. Walking toward the bathroom, I did all the necessities and changed into the same uniform I wore yesterday. Mrs Jones said that I can only change uniforms once every three days.
"Unless there's blood on your uniform." she had added, staring at me as though trying to convey a hidden message - You won't kill me, right?
I proceeded to Floor 1. It turned out that the main hall was basically the rooms Ex-Guard 1 and Ex-Guard 2 had been guarding yesterday.
If I failed today, would Lord Raverton sack me? Hopefully not. He had said that spies were important. Wait, why was I even hoping to keep the job?
I shrugged off my thoughts and headed for the double doors, which a new set of guards guarded. A different shift? Or...were they meant to replace the guards that we're brutally fired yesterday?
I really pity the old guards, especially Guard 1. Even if he wasn't exactly the kindest guy, he still had a family to feed.
The new guards met my gaze.
"State your business." New Guard 1 (the one on the left) grumbled.
"Uh...appointment at 6am."
"With?"
"The Lord."
Both guards glared at me. "Don't joke, kid. That can lead you to the dumgeons."
I thought about Mr C, who still wandered this halls. This place was already like a dungeon. The only thing that can get you out was to be fired, so he seemed more likely to be out of the dungeons instead of the other way round.
"I'm not kidding. I saw yesterday's guards get fired by the Lord for not sending me in."
The colour drained from Guard 1's face, though Guard 2 still had his eyes trained on me.
Guard 1 knocked on the left door. "Sir," he called out. "You have an appointment with Miss..."
"Miss Jas."
"Jas, my Lord. Miss Jas."
Silence, then someone opened the doors from inside. Thankfully, he didn't kick them open this time.
Lord Raverton gestured for me to enter the main hall, so I walked past the guards, ignoring the startled expressions on their faces. Ha! That should teach them!
The doors closed behind me solemnly. The Lord stared at me solemnly. The majestic white pillars towered over me solemnly. The marble floor held under my feet solemnly. The intimidating throne that Lord Raverton probably sat on glowered at me solemnly. A table stood in front of the throne solemnly. The only thing not feeling solemn was me."So, when do we start?" I began. I realised that there was nobody in the main hall. I stared at my Lord, waiting for him to snap out of his solemn mood.
He tossed me something sharp and shiny that was behind his back. I barely caught it and as I stared at it, I knew what it was.
The metal was clearly new. I could literally see myself in it. I made a solemn face at it only to find it staring back at me. The hilt was wood. Nothing fancy, but it seemed to promise death and destruction.
