Prologue

The Earth was finally ashes. No matter how hard the human population had fought previously, World War III had killed them all. Their bombs, nuclear weapons, and poisonous gases had destroyed both the atmosphere and the ozone layer. But the bombs and weapons were not the only reason for the death of the long reigning human civilisation. No, seeing the weakness in mankind, foreign enemies from different planets had attacked taking advantage of the situation. The first blast knocked out many of the humans. Some died during the time they were evolving, but some survived and hid.

Eventually, the alien species' took what they wanted and left, leaving an empty, blackened landscape of ruins and devastation. When the remaining evolved humans had grouped together it suddenly became clear that they each had new Powers. A King and Queen were established and the different Powers were named: people who could see visions - Visionists; people who could see what people had seen, memories and what they were thinking - Mentalists; people who could move things using their mind - Physicists; people who could calm others and control their emotions - Peace Keepers; the list goes on.

The new form of species lived on Earth, formed alliances quietly with other planets for sources of food, and created a way to live with none of the corrupt problems the standard humans had experienced, all under the radar of past enemies. All together this created a civilisation that could have survived for thousands of years - had nothing happened. But if nothing had happened there would still have been a problem; Utopia does not exist and cannot be found no matter what may suggest so.

Chapter 1

Olivia had wandered this area of ruins many times. But, being a Visionist, every time she saw something new. A different her, remembering a life she had once lived before the End. Today it was about walking to something known as a 'school' listening to music. The cold air was hurting the memories ears but her ears felt perfectly fine. It was quiet. Too quiet - until her 'friends' jumped at her, almost making her fall over. They yelled out Happy Birthday as loud as they could, which seemed wrong in the silence. As usual the vision cut out. That had been happening a lot lately. The happy feeling stayed for a moment until she wondered why it cut out and heard Jarod talking to her, but it was still nice to feel happy for a change.

"How many times do I need to tell you Jarod? When I'm in a vision, leave me alone!" He always interrupted her, without fail. Every single time. But then when you're a Mentalist, you tend to forget about what other people might think. Which sounds a bit contradictory, but it's true.

"Love to, but as I say, 'the sun is awakening and the moon is sleeping,'" another sun up meeting. Why couldn't they just leave her out of it? She never slept anymore since her parents and her past friends died, so it wasn't really the timing that was a problem, but it would have been nice to stay in the vision for a little while longer. She didn't care anyway and they never listened when she did. "By the way, buenos dias," and then they disappeared.

He was right - the sun was high up in the sky by the time they Travelled. It was the one gift that everyone left shared - Travelling. It was one of the most useful powers too. Since the End had destroyed the ozone layer, there was nothing to protect the Earth from asteroids, meteorites etc, so if you could travel as far away as possible in a quick amount of time, you were probably likely to live a bit longer.
