"Jessie! You staying after school today?" Greg asked me.
"I dunno Greg. There will be a lot of people there and you know I get claustrophobic." I answered.
We were sitting in lunch awaiting on Roger's arrival. Apparently he was planning on breaking up with Gena already.
"Hey Jess, hey Greg." Sam walked over and sat down.
Us three, we sat in a row waiting for a show to go down. I saw Jacob with his friends and they were waiting for the scene to begin. Gena was sitting with her trio of friends expecting nothing while everyone else was at the edge of their seat. Word got out that this would happen. The cafeteria doors opened and we all gasped thinking it was Roger, but it was only Veronica. We all booed in silence. We were making this event more historical than Abraham Lincoln's presidency. Even some of the teachers were standing by.
"Come on already. Where is he?" Samantha complained under her breath.
Gena began to look around the room to everyone's attention. She questioned nothing as she receives this attention pretty much everyday, but this time it was more worthy of captivating. Roger walked in and suddenly it turned into a movie scene. Everyone got quiet and began to eye Roger as he was making his way towards Gena.
"I hope she kicks his balls. The dumbass tackled me pretty hard the other day so it will be even." Greg said to me.
I laughed but brought my attention back to them. Roger approached Gena.
"Gena," he began as everyone watched his every move, "we need to talk."
Gena turned around surprised, "oh hey babe, what's up?" She said all happily.
Roger turned to everyone around him and finally spoke, "I think we need to break up."
Gena sat motionless. "What do you mean?"
"This isn't working anymore. How can I be in a relationship with someone who only uses me for her penmanship?" He exclaimed.
Gena began to tear up, "how could you even say such words, that's not what's happening."
"Admit it Gena, you payed me to kiss you at the football game about a week ago, remember?" He explained.
A few students gasped because they had barely heard of this, but others mumbled to each other knowing that it was true.
"Really? You have to say that in front of everyone?" Delfina spoke to him.
"And if it wasn't for this little clan of control freaks, I would've broken up with you weeks ago. But they kept me tied down mentioning how I would lose all of my debt if I broke up with you."
Gena turned to her squadron and gave them a look of betrayal and disbelief.
"No, you guys did not..." She said to them.
They all sat in silence shooting eye contact to one another avoiding Gena's response.
"Is it true?" She asked her friends.
No response.
She slammed her arm down, "IS IT TRUE?!" She yelled.
"Yes." Abby spoke.
The rest of them looked at Abby like she had just broken a really expensive vase.
"I hate you all." Gena spoke again.
She stood up angrily, turned around, and slapped Roger hard. Everyone twitched at the sound of it. Easily one of Roger's friends could run up to her and give her a taste of her own medicine, but like I said before, a girl and a boy fight is of no cost. No one did anything. Roger crouched down on the floor pressing his hand against his red mark. Gena ran away crying. Her friends ran in different directions away from the dramatic scene that had just taken place. Some people laughed as they ran away, but others just felt bad for them.
"Well winners for the best Oscar film." Greg said to me and Sam.
We both laughed and in that moment I saw Jacob run to Roger to check up on him along with some other football players.
"Hey back off shortie." Thomas growled at Jacob.
Jacob was not a shortie but to Thomas he was since he towers everyone.
"Lemme see his face." He spoke as if he were a medic.
"What are you, a nurse now?" Tommy spoke.
"It's more than what you'll ever be." Sam announced to him.
He looked at Sam and stayed still. Oh yes she did.
"Looks like it's not much of damage. Just get some ice on it to take the redness away." Jacob explained to Roger.
"It was just a slap man, but thanks." Roger said.
Jacob helped Roger up on his feet and Roger laughed.
"It wasn't even my doing and yet I payed for it." He said.
"Well at least she's out of your life." Greg commented.
Everyone around us returned to their own conversations. Some people began clamoring on and on about what had just happened. It was probably a bigger event than when he first asked her out.
