Maverick wasnt always so cold, his brother would say looking at his wife when she brought up her concerns about the quieter twin.
He would tell tales of when Maverick was his hero, escaping his fathers clutches and enjoying themselves in the warm streets of the summer plaza. The sun warming their bodies as they played tag with other children.
Andrew would continue, his eyes not seemingly focused on the world around him as he recalled fond memories of his brother. Only darkening when he talked about his selfishness, the way the elder brother took his fathers beatings for him instead.
He explained that even then Maverick was kind and always had some joke to tell, he was never afraid of his father.
When asked what changed him Andrew would just pause and shake his head refusing to explain, only saying something about the crown in a hushed tone.
Andrew knew that Maverick was never greedy, but he wanted to make so many changes to the world, changes his father knew would expose him. So instead the cruel king had turned to the younger twin, the one who still trusted his father and gave him the crown right before Maverick went to the military. When he had came back years later Andrew was the king and his father was finally dead. Andrew took his brothers advice and did what Maverick wished to do, but even then the older brother couldn't help but feel wronged. Even now, as he works as a guard, all bitterness gone from his mind. Andrew knows they'll never be as close as they used to. But he's still glad he has his brother back, even if it isn't the same as before.
