Venus chuckles. Everyday Mars would tell her some strange fact he figures out from pure curiosity.
Venus stares as Aphrodite and Cupid walk by. Their beautiful blue and yellow, swirl to make a mint green. Of course they're the first people at school to find their soulmate. They're named after the God and Goddess of Love. Venus appreciate's the idea of love but she knew the chance of her finding her soulmate out of the 200 million people in her Sector was nearly impossible.
To clarify, the year is 2640. The world is split into 26 different sectors. Venus is in Sector 3, one of the smaller sectors on the Continent of Europe. You cannot communicate with other sectors. Why would anyone want to leave Sector 3? There's perfect weather, everybody contributes to the government, and on Tuesdays, you're able to travel to different schools to see if you can find your soulmate.
That's your main purpose here. Everyone has pills shoved down their throats twice a day so their aura can be radiated. When you find the love of you life, your auras intertwine. It holds you together so you can never leave their side. You wouldn't need to. When you find your soulmate, you're moved into the house assigned to the man at birth.
Only the unlucky never find their soulmate, Venus's grandmother included. There are tell tales of the unspoken: members of the same sex thinking they belong together and trying to escape Sector 3. That's Venus's favorite part of going to visit her grandmother in the Community. She loves anything that has to do with the outside world.
Her grandmother is the only person she can talk to. She tells of a myth that when the truest love is achieved, their aura will be so bright that it blinds and harms others. Her grandmother says that's why they're in Sectors. To keep their minds away from overcoming the government. Perhaps that's why her grandmother never found love. People who protest the government become punished, and the punishment is so bad that it makes them never talk about what happened. That's what happened to her grandmother. She is Venus's one source of happiness and she's just thankful to be by her side. That is, until her grandmother went missing.
