BANANA MILK

GENRE; fluff/comedy
SYNOPSIS; you make it hard not to notice. highschool!au
USERNAME; -HYOJUNGS

the hallways were buzzing with chattering and conversation, accompanied with the occasional slamming of lockers and classroom doors against its hinges. there was an air of weariness hanging over the cohort of students, having only survived mid week on a rainy wednesday.

guanlin strolled into physics class with his group of friends, heading to their usual seats at the back of the class. ignoring the cliches, guanlin's sole reason of sitting at the back was to get away with sleeping in class.

as his eyes sweep across the rows of tables, he wasn't surprised to see the familiar yellow object standing atop his desk.

unknowing to him, his footsteps quickened to pull the small scrap of paper from under the carton.

the banana milk cartons have become a common occurrence in his life since the beginning of school term. every day, without fail, there would be a banana milk carton at his desk accompanied with a note from his secret admirer. or we'll, not-so-secret admirer.

nice shirt you're wearing. is it made of boyfriend material?
xoxo, red

guanlin knew all about you. he had noticed you since the very first day, ever since you had turned up on the first day with a mob of fiery red locks swept back in a messy ponytail. you had that mischief in your eyes that gained you the title of the class' younger sister, being the only freshmen besides seonho in the class.

you were very brash and blunt about your feelings. maybe it was something to do with age and innocence, but you were never afraid to show how much you liked guanlin. it ranged from greeting him "oppa!" everyday to random confessions during lunch in the cafeteria.

not to mention the banana milk that you would 'secretly' gift him everyday.

guanlin never really paid attention to the evident crush that you had for him, even though you hounded his mind during long days of school and lessons. but this time, it was different.

like every other day, he would scan the class in hopes of catching your eye.

and there you were, sitting at the third seat from the front nearest to the windows. but you were not alone, nor with your best friend sejeong. instead, there was a boy sitting in front of you. you both were laughing about something that he had said, and that spiked an unknown feeling in guanlin's heart.

why did he care? he never did anyways.

unwillingly, he sat at his seat, pretending to listen to seonho rant about missing his fifth meal yesterday.

"good morning class, we have a transfer student joining our class today." mrs jung gestured to the boy who was talking to you.

"hi, i'm lee daehwi, please take care of me!" the class clapped for him as he returned to his seat.

guanlin quickly decided he didn't like daehwi at all.

when lunch came around, guanlin watched you invite daehwi to have lunch at your table. once again, he felt that familiar pang in his heart, a feeling that he pushed away and tried to ignore.

was this how being jealous felt like?

the next day, guanlin had enough. he had entered the class, becoming hyper aware of you and daehwi laughing together, and his surprisingly empty table. no sign of banana milk.

the rest of the classes went by like a breeze, but guanlin couldn't get you off his mind. maybe it was his thoughts that had drove him crazy enough to ask seonho for advice, which was why he was currently standing outside your dorm, heart in his hands and fist out ready to knock.

just before he could do so, the door was flung open with force and you all but head butted him to the floor in your mad rush to leave for class. the banana milk carton in his hand landed beside your feet, causing you to pick it up and hand it to him apologetically, only to realise who it was.

"guanlin?! what are you doing--wait, nevermind, i don't care. let me help you up..."

blaming it on your clumsiness, you somehow ended up tripping over air and landing with an 'oof' on top of poor guanlin, who held his arms up to brace your fall.

"wow, i know i'm attractive, but you're falling for me already?" he teased, a smirk decorating his lips. you scoffed, pushing yourself off him and reaching out a hand to help him up.

just as he touched your fingers, you pulled your hand away and yelled, "SIKE! YOU LOSER, SEE YOU ANOTHER TIME!", as you skipped off.

sadly, you had conveniently forgotten how your short legs were no comparison to his long ass ones.

"hey shortie, we needa talk."

"firstly, my height is cute, and secondly, when did you ever want to talk?" you were fully aware how long you had been crushing on him, and while you were fully ecstatic that he was talking to you, you were also suspicious.

"well, i just wanted to let you know that i don't like that daehwi guy, and you should probably stay away from him." a smirk creeped up your face. you couldn't believe that your cousin's stupid idea of making guanlin jealous was working. you would have to buy daehwi ice cream for that.

you stopped in your tracks, suddenly interested in this conversation. you watched guanlin's face flush red in embarrassment, turning away to avoid your smug gaze.

"and what are you gonna do about that?" you decided to further chide him on, because you were evil like that. "daehwi's a nice guy, nicer than you."

"hey, that's mean." guanlin pouted, and you swear that was the most adorable thing you had ever seen.

"how about you let me take you out, and we'll see if that daehwi dude is better or not."

"like a hangout?"

"like a date." you were surprised by his confidence and the determination in his eyes, but that didn't deter you from playing hard to get.

"i'll...think about it."

"i'm sure 'thinking' wouldn't take long."

"you'd be surprised. it might take as long you took to finally ask me out." guanlin scowled, making you smile in satisfaction.

"till next time, can opener." you waved behind your back, hearing him protest at your nickname for him. there was no doubt you were gonna say yes to his preposition about the date, but you were just going to have to leave him hanging for a little while.

maybe get him to buy you banana milk to win you over, like you had won his heart.
