laughter erupted from the group of boys huddled around a desk, chatter floating in the air. the conversation mostly revolved around the subject of homecoming and girls, which led to the unavoidable subject of dates.

"i asked yoojung yester--"

"haknyeon, everyone heard about how you asked her to be your date in the middle of the cafeteria in front of the whole school. no need to brag." woojin scoffed, rolling his eyes and habitually picking at his snaggletooth.

"uhm, at least I have a date, what about you? finally mustered the courage to ask mina?" haknyeon's sassy words reduced woojin to a blushing mess. he has had a long-time crush on the school's sweetheart, kang mina, but was never convinced that she even knew about his existence, much less being interested in him.

"it's all good buddy, i'll be your date if she doesn't ask you." hyeongseob threw an arm around woojin's shoulder, causing the group to burst out into fits of laughter when woojin shrugs off his arm in disgust.

"what about you, jihoon?"

jihoon shook himself out of his reverie, a confused look crossing his face. haknyeon sighed, patting his shoulder while rolling his eyes.

"you're not going to homecoming alone again, are you?" jihoon shrugged nonchalantly in response, never really seeing the deal about homecoming. he hated dancing, or at least the type of inappropriate dancing that happened during these events. it was impossible to deny that jihoon was popular, one of the school's biggest heart-throbs in fact, but he never acknowledges that status and would much rather stick with his gang of friends.

many—and he meant it, many—girls had asked him to the dance in the past couple of weeks. call him heartless, but he had turned them all down without even considering. he would rather let them down easy then lead them on into something he did not want to be involved in.

"well... i just--i'm not interested in any of them. there's no point going with them."

haknyeon looked confused, his mouth gaping open to say something when his attention is snatched away by yoojung and her best friend, y/n walking into class. his lips immediately morph into a smile, ditching his band of friends and walking towards her. she, in turn, diverts her attention away from y/n, who looked like she was going to gag from their outright flirting.

you were, per say, that one girl that many suitors tended to overlook. the reason often being that you were never worth the trouble, especially with your stubborn attitude and because you stuck around people like yoojung, who took up most of the spotlight.

jihoon never appreciated that, how people brushed you a side just because they had to work a little harder to get to you.

"hey jihoon," woojin tapped him on the arm, a mischievous smirk on his face, revealing his snaggertooth.

"your crush is showing."

jihoon, as cocky as he could get, blushed as red as a tomato at his words. he opened his mouth to defend himself, but woojin patted his shoulder in mock comfort.

"better ask her out before someone swoops in to steal your chance." woojin remarked from his spot beside him, before turning to face the teacher. jihoon was left to drown in his thoughts about homecoming and a very special girl by the name of y/n.
