Prologue

"I think we should adopt a child", said Mom in her daily vlog-2034. Humble uncle smiled. Mom turned the camera to herself. "Humble, it's not like we are gonna be parents man. I want you to be the father of my adopted child." Both started laughing. They laughed and laughed and laughed until Humble uncle asked, "You serious?" Mom laughed, and just like that the segment was over.
The next vlog was titled 'The Time I have a Future - Day: 2035'. I wondered what it could possibly be. It's my habit to read comments before I watch the video, just like I read the epilogue of books before reading the book. It was all 'Oh my God, Humble is so Sweet' and 'Oh Gods, we have the future of YouTube' and mainly, 'Awww!' I could make it out, but I kept it to myself. I kept the suspense to myself, even though I knew what it was.
Mom and Nandini aunty (mom's friend) who had come for a week, were vlogging when Humble uncle aka Kanwer uncle arrived with a baby in his hand. "I don't know what to say right now, I am so clueless", said Mom. "What is it?" asked Nandini aunty. "I just released a video about being spontaneous. Don't you guys get my YouTube notifications! Man I have about 13 Million subscribers, and my own friends don't check my channel", said Humble uncle. "What do you mean? What do you have?"asked Nandini aunty? "Lilly suggested to adopt a baby , you know just a spontaneous thought. I brought her one," exclaimed Humble uncle.
"What!" exclaimed mom. "Humble, you're joking right?" "No!"exclaimed Humble uncle. "It's your daughter, and should be my daughter partially because I adopted her, but it's okay. You are an unmarried single independent parent!" "Okay!" mom exclaimed. "I am ready, " she said facing to her vlog camera. "I am ready."
I couldn't believe it. I just couldn't believe this Punjabi of 30 years is unmarried and single parent, considering my grandparents, who wouldn't allow it. Somehow I could feel mom. I could feel her not being prepared. But, I also could feel the happiness in her eyes. The way she took the baby from Humble uncle, which felt as if she was owning her. "Becaus you're here Nandini," mom said. "I'm going to name her Nandini."
Needless to say, that baby was me. And now I'm watching this, I'm watching my mom's reaction after so many years. How could have mom hid it all from me? All I discovered after so much mom and I had gone through, which is written in the following pages.
