The car pulled up to an open airport hangar near in the YVR airport. Trevor's pilot was standing outside of his Legacy 500 jet, waiting to greet the two passengers as they exited.
"Mr. Morrison," the pilot said.
"Mr. Bosch," Trevor greeted him with a smile and a handshake. "How are the wife and kids?"
"Everyone is doing great."
"Good to hear," Trevor said, handing him an envelope. "Some spending money for New York."
"Thank you, sir," the pilot said emphatically. "Looks like we've got blue skies the whole way. Perfect day for flying."
"Can't wait, let's go."
Trevor climbed aboard the jet and found a seat. Deon followed behind, but looked a little nervous. It was Deon's first time flying and it was aboard a luxurious private jet. Surely it would be tough to beat this flying experience.
"This thing is safe, right?" Deon asked.
"I have the best pilot in the world. Isn't that right, Regan?"
"Top ten for sure."
The pilot made an announcement, told the two passengers the estimated time of arrival, and went over some safety protocols. Soon after, the jet taxied onto the runway.
"You okay?" Trevor asked, looking over at Deon.
"Yeah, I'm fine," Deon replied. "Why do you ask?"
"You look nervous."
"Nope, I'm good."
Deon sat upright in his seat as if he were on the peak of a rollercoaster, waiting for it to drop. Just then, the powerful engines kicked in, thrusting them down the runway. The whole time Deon was gripping his seat. Trevor couldn't help but laugh. When the nose of the plane lifted off, Deon's hands clamped down tighter into the soft leather. He was frozen with fear, staring straight ahead with a look of terror. He refused to move his head to look out the window.
"It's okay to breathe, Deon?" Trevor said. "The hard part is over."
The plane became airborne and soon climbed up to the proper flying altitude. For the next five hours, the two talked, mostly about Deon's future.
"This isn't meant to be a permanent position," Trevor said. "You should never look at a job as a means to acquire money. Instead, jobs are just a stepping stone to get you where you want to go. You may work at a place just so that you meet the right kinds of people, or learn necessary skills. If you approach it like that, money will always come down the line."
"I don't know what I want to do with my life though."
"No rush, you'll figure it out. The most important thing I can tell you is that no two paths are the same. Perhaps going to college and climbing up some corporate ladder isn't for you. Maybe you want to travel abroad and teach English, create a vlog, start your own cooking show on YouTube..."
"You really think I could teach English?"
"I believe you can do anything you want as long as you're passionate about it and willing to work for it. If you don't do the thing you want to do, then you didn't want it bad enough. If you want something bad enough, you'll find a way. You just have to find that thing that drives you."
"Well, I have been thinking about creating an app."
"Oh yeah," Trevor said, sounding excited. "I can't wait to hear about it."
"I listened to what you said about paying attention to things," Deon began. "You said you started your company because you recognized a problem. People carry way too many cards in their wallet and from that idea, you saw an opportunity. Now look at you. We're flying on your private jet, you have more money than God, and you dominate the financial tech industry.
