The War is Finally Over.

Chapter 5

We sat in our favorite sushi place just talking and laughing. I excused myself to fix my hair and redo my make up. I walked back out and John and Tali had went to go dance and Garrus was sitting there waiting for me.

"Hey, why didnt you go dance?" I asked

"Because I dont have a partner." he joked

I felt so akward. I dont dance nor do I know how to. I sat next to him. He stood up and grabbed my hand.

"What are you doing? NO! no no no no no no.." he pulled me to the dance floor and everyone cleared.

Oh God, i'm about to make myself look like a fool. I thought. I constantly felt myself almost trip over my feet. After about two to three minutes I got the hang of it. 

After we finished i was out of breath and could feel my heart in my stomach.

"That was the most nerve wrecking thing I have done in a while." I said to him.

"It was fun though, no?" he said back

"Yeah it was." I admitted

John and Tali made their way back to the table. Tali was drunk already and John was on the verge of gettin drunk.

"Oh God. Really?" I said

"Loosen up, Shepard." Tali slurred

"Wanna go outside, Nyx?" Garrus asked

"Yeah. I need some air. It's a bit stuffy in here." I said

We walked out to the balconey and saw the beautiful veiw of the citadel. I didnt want to look away but Garrus pulled my attention away. He went down on one knee. I could feel the tears.

"Nyx, we've been through so much together. We've been separated and reunited. You make me smile and laugh. No one has ever done that to me. You're different. What i'm trying to get at is, will you marry me?" he finally asked

My throat was tight at this point. I could barely speak. I nodded my head and was finally able to speak.

"Yes. A hundered million times yes!" I said and hugged him

We walked back inside and i cleaned my face and got John and Tali and we went home.

"They can just crash here." I said as we got back to the apartment Anderson gave me.

It was the next morning and I woke up to the smell of eggs and bacon.

"Hey. Hows that hangover?" I joked with john.

He just groaned and I laughed. I dont know if he noticed the ring on my finger but i didnt bring it up. He put the food on the table and we each took a plate to feed two to three people.

"Morning." I heard Garrus

"In the kitchen hun." I said

he walked in and saw food on the table waiting for him. He sat next to me and began to eat. He held my hand. It was later on in the day and John and Tali's hangover was pretty much gone.

"John! Come in the kitchen please!" I called

He strided in and sat at he table across from me and Garrus.

"Whats up kiddo?" he said

"This is serious. No kidding." I said

"Okay. I'm serious." he said back

"Garrus proposed." I said quickly

He looked astonished. Not so much happy as much as worried or mad. I didnt know what to say to him.

"John? Are you mad?" I asked

He just stood there. He had his lips pressed in a tight line. I didnt know if he was mad or upset.

"I dont know, Nyx." he said

"Dammit, John! Mom and dad would have been happy!" I yelled

He looked mad now. We hadnt talked about our parents scince he stayed on mindoir and made me leave.

"They would not approve of you marrying an alien!" he yelled back

I could hear Garrus' heart shatter. They were friends. Almost brothers (literally). I could see the anger in his face. 

"Garrus, buddy-" John started

"Out. Get out." he said angrily

"Garrus please calm down." I said

"No! He doesnt want to be in a room with an alien he doesnt have to be in here." he was now towering over John

I wasnt scared at all. I knew exactly what Garrus was capable of but I knew he would never kill my brother and make me upset.

"Nyx! Help?" he said

I just walked off. I packed some stuff for John. When I came back I found John sitting across the table from Garrus.

"John, here are some things for you. I got you your own apartment on the citadel." I handed him the suitcase.

He stood and took it from my grip. I was holding it so tightly my knuckles turned white.

"I'm sorry. I'm so so sorry." he whispered in my ear and hugged me.

I felt the tears well up in my eyes and fall down my cheeks. He let go and took Tali with him to the waiting skycar. Just before they flew off I pulled him off.

"They would approve of me being happy!" I yelled and pushed him back on.

I walked back in with tears streaming down my face and Garrus hugged me tight.

"I cant believe how mad he was." I managed to get out between sobs

"It's okay, baby." he said and kissed my head.

I hugged him tight. It was the next day and while Garrus was helping with calibrations on the ship I sat down in the presidium enjoying the view and having a drink. Liara saw me and walked over.

"Nyx! How are you?" she asked

"Great. I have something to tell you." i said

"What?" she asked

"Garrus finally proposed!" I said

"By the goddess! Oh, I'm so happy for you!" she said

"Thank you! I want you to be my maid of honor." I said 

"I would be delighted!" she said

Garrus saw us sitting and walked over. He sat next to me and held my hand.
