The doors to the Dark Side creaked open and tiny dust particles immediately flooded my nose. As an automatic reaction, I started sneezing and Blayze muttered an apology.
A huge tower stood beside the metal gates which looked cold and unwelcoming with the large number of rifles that peeked through it, for security purposes only, I hoped.
Blayze tapped me on my arm and I broke out of my trance, looking at him with wide eyes.
"We need to go, princess. Your friend is in trouble" he whispered to me and I nodded slightly.
As we entered the boundaries of the Dark Side, a gust of bitter wind hit my body and I felt my lips turning blue slightly. Blayze, however seemed unfazed.
The scene here was just like I had imagined. The houses were slightly sagging, numerous pieces of wood falling out of the roof.
Somewhere inside a house, a kid was crying for food as loud as she could and my eyes watered slightly. True to Blayze's words, the smell from the sewage was quite intense for my nose which was always surrounded by expensive perfumes and flowers. An idea popped in my mind and I nudged Blayze's fraying jacket sleeve.
"What?" His eyes snapped to me and they held a hint of urgency.
"Come with me" I said as I started walking to the house where the sound of the crying kid was coming from, Blayze protesting behind me.
"Princess, do you want to get robbed?" He said harshly but I shook my head at him and continued to trudge through the snow.
Knocking on the door slightly, I waited for a reaction and looked up at Blayze. His posture was tense, muscles peeking through the thin tee shirt beneath his jacket. His hair was cropped close to his head at the sides but was grown a little longer in the middle.
But his eyes were the things which mermerized me the most. They were so blue and it felt like a storm was brewing up there. The snow did nothing but to make his eyes look more clear and beautiful.
I broke out of my trance as the door swung open and a woman stepped out. Blayze wrapped an arm around me protectively and a cage of butterflies broke free in my stomach.
"Hello" I said softly as the woman assessed me with cold eyes. Blayze sighed impatiently beside me.
"Yes?" she drawled slowly and I took out a huge amount of cash from the inside pocket of my dress. My hands shook as I offered her the money.
"Please buy some food for your child" I said, my voice breaking at the end. The woman was confused for a moment but then she extended her bony hand to me. I placed the money there.
"Thank you" she came closer and hugged me close to her. The gesture was so motherly that I melted into the touch completely.

"Mom, we have a guest!" Blayze shouted as we burst through his front door.
A blond head poked out of a room, kitchen, I assumed. Her eyes widened in surprise as she took in my fancy appearance. She clearly wasn't expecting anyone from the Bright Side.
"Honey, what's your name?" She asked and I smiled at her urgently.
But before I could reply, Blayze walked to her and pulled her aside. After whispering to each other for a while, his mother went to the kitchen and handed me a heavy box.
"Go help your friend now" she said and we both nodded. She handed me a jacket and I put it on immediately.
When we made it out of the house, the weather was worse. The storms were always worse in our city but I would always be cooped up in my room to notice anything. Oblivious little things we are. We forget reality just with a roof on our heads. We never bother to go out and look for clues.
I was out of breath when we finally reached the party. It looked like nothing had changed and it rose a bitter feeling in me. My best friend was suffering and these people were dancing like there was no worry in the world.
Oblivious
Blayze and I made no sound as we walked to the dusty room again. Tears of panic blurred my vision and my heartbeat was abnormally high.
But nothing could prepare me for what I saw.
A glass shattering scream silenced the music outside which was probably mine and then there was complete darkness.
