The sun seeped through the curtains as 17 year old Scorpius Malfoy woke up to see his best friend Albus snoring softly across the room. It was half past six, he was probably the first to wake up.
'I'm going to miss this place' he thought. He stroked his green and black curtains and his duvet and looked all around the place had had lived in for seven whole years. The things he had packed the night before with Albus were tucked in his trunk. He tried to kid himself he was only going for the holidays but failed. He padded softly into the Slytherin common room and looked at all the sleeping portraits. One was looking at him with wise eyes.
" I know how it feels, m' boy." said a very old man in his nightclothes.
" Who are you?" said Scorpius, with a look of wonder upon his face.
" My name is Horace Slughorn. Used to be a professor here back in the day." said Slughorn with a reminicising look.
"Pleasure. Was it..was it hard for you too..you know, leaving Hogwarts?" asked Scorpius nervously.
"What, leaving everything you've known, or knowing somebody else is going to be sleeping in those exact bedsheets only for them to go through the same thing? Ah, it's not easy, I'll give you that m'boy, but you can either think of it as a clean slate, a new beginning or let it haunt you and bring you down."
And with that, Slughorn yawned loudly and began to snore. Scorpius tiptoed back to his room to find Albus standing up in his uniform, checking his hair in the mirror. Scorpius rolled his eyes. Ever since Albus started dating Polly Chapman, a fellow Slytherin, he has been so self conscious.
"Oh hey, Scorpion King, how's my hair?" Albus asked.
"Hideous," Scorpius teased,while ruffling Albus's hair.
" You're gonna look like a right prat third wheeling ŵith me and Polly at the leavers' dance, Scorpius. Have you even TRIED and asked someone?"
" All the Slytherin girls are just...no way!'
"What about Katie Wells? She's got nice hair."
" She called me a bookie when I bumped into her in the corridors reading 'Hogwarts: A History'."
"Ugh, Scorpius..how bout Freya Collins? She's the cleverest girl in Slytherin!"
"No, just no. I've got only got eyes for Rose, Albus, you know that."
"Scorpius, it's been years. Rose turned you down every single time. It's not going to be any different , trust me Scorpius."
"I'm not giving up on her Albus."
