It was then that I realized that a 'steely gaze' was not made it steel.
Rather, it was made of glass.
It was made of unshed tears
That lingered so long
That it froze over.
What used to be a deep, mysterious ocean of blue
Or a thick, wise forest of green
Is now a desolate, sad blue
And an envious, sick green
What used to be a sunrise
Was just another rotation of this desolate planet.
This was not bravery.
This was cowardice.
They weren't going into their next challenge unafraid.
Rather, they were uncaring.
Hell could be burning around them
But, like their eyes
Their hearts were frozen over.
