12 years later
It is a sunny day Gallien is at a graduation ceremony for the school of magic. Education in magic is a requirement of all people in the United Cities of Endle. Though there are specific career classes. The Merchants of which Gallien's Uncle belonged skilled salesmen and women that keep the economy going, the farmers who keep the city fed and functioning, the actors of which Gallien's Aunt was a member they keep the city happy and all festivals are managed by them, finally we have the Explorers they are the cities future men and women who have mastered magic and assist the other groups with various tasks. They guard cities, Slay monsters, And map the lands. And Gallien has just joined them now he awaits his final trial.
He walks up to the podium where an old man in shiny armor that everyone in the cities knows immediately. Enderium. Master Verdicy has obtained his Enderium many years ago when he climbed the great Mount Skuldafin and slew the frost Ogre guarding a cache of it. Now he teaches the new generation of explorers and researches magic and uses of magic. "Come forward boy"
He says with a booming voice. Gallien slowly walked up those familiar steps he had watched previously graduates walk. Some of them returned others did not. Verdicy spoke again.
"On this day Gallien Caster joins us in the explorers." He said as the crowd let out a cheer.
"May your quest be an excellent one." With that he handed Gallien the amulet of graduation. it bore the symbol of the explorers. And the crowd chanted "Explorer!, Explorer!, Explorer!" It was a day to be remembered.
With that his quest began to find and obtained Enderium. His father and mother had both done this before him. "If only they could see what I've accomplished." He thought as he walked out of the ceremony and into town.
Before he could set out he had to purchase supplies. Magic could do much but depending on it was unwise. This is the philosophy of the people of Endle and the reason for the creation of the other districts. Gallien had also grew up with a respect for the merchants since after all his Uncle was a shopkeeper. He walked up to the decently sized shop called "Gared's General store" in gold lettering on a red wooden sign he immediately remembered the day he and his Uncle had painted it he could even remember the smell of the paint that had been dropped on his shirt. "Auntie was furious" he recalled. As he opened the door he saw his Uncle putting some potions on a shelf while he had a enchanted broom cleaning the floors.
"What can I do for you my boy?" He asked in his usual jolly voice
"I've graduated Uncle" Gallien said.
"That's wonderful your father would be proud he told me he'd wanted you to become an explorer."
"Uncle I'm in need of supplies for the journey" he said while looking at some of the items on display,
"But of course" his Uncle said stepping behind the counter.
Gallien perused the aisles of the shop for quite a bit of time. He had purchased a bag of weightlessness which allowed him to carry the items he brought with him and found. He also purchased a set of crystallized armor it's strength and flexibility was second only to Enderium. The last item he bought was a survival kit that was equipped with a tent food and tools he'd need for the journey ahead of him. As he went to ring it up his Uncle slipped a envelope in the bag. Gallien wouldn't notice it until much later
"How much do I owe you Uncle?"
"10 shillings" he said with a slight chuckle
"Right" Gallien put the money on the counter
"Goodbye and tell Auntie I'm going as well."
"I will you just stay well out there Endle can be a dangerous place ya know."
"I understand Uncle and thanks for everything." With those words Gallien departed from his Uncle's shop he still looked around the city for a while to ensure he had everything he needed.
Gallien left town by sunset walking out onto the old city roads was new to him. As far as he could remember he had always stayed within the walls of safety now behind him. As he walked through the stony path he heard a rustling in the nearby bushes.
Suddenly a dire wolf had leapt onto the path it didn't look friendly either. "This makes no sense." Gallien thought. And true it didn't really make any sense at all dire wolves among other animals not within the deep forests were supposed to be pacified by the city's safety spells this one was different but how?
The wolf charged it's gray coat dashing past him he only had a second to dodge. As the wolf landed across from him he could see what made it different. While one half of it's face was normal. The other half was rotted and bone protruded from multiple spots. It was the work of some lich or necromancer. Gallien wasn't disgusted by the creature though. Necromancy was a just another tool in the magic arsenal and as long as you stuck to the specified guidelines you could practice as much as you'd like.
This time the dire wolf was not so lucky. As it charged Gallien he sent out a current of charged lightning into the wolfs body. The current sparked and crackled all over the undead wolf turning it to nothing more than gray dust in moments.
After defeating the wolf Gallien made camp for the night setting up his green tent. A fire and he started roasting some of the fresh fish he'd bought at the market tonight was a good night and he celebrated it. This would be the first of many trials he'd come to face as he searched for his own Enderium.
