I leaned against the door as my mother's voice rose to the point of yelling, her voice drifing up the stairs and to my room. She was furious, the much was easily noticeable, thankful it was not at me. It wasn't even at Blake seeing how he have not even returned home yet, the mystery person sure was on the receiving line of my mother's hatred. "Henry you haven't had anything to do with Grace of Blake since you walked out," my dad had called? That was shocking to say the least, he never called, he had been absent from my life since I was ten "Have you gone crazy Henry, it's Gracelyn's last summer as a high school student I'm not making her fly to California." The more my mother spoke the angry and louder her words became until they were as sharp as knives. "Lawyer's my ass Henry!" Oh no, if we went to a judge my mom would surely lose, I would have to go but Blake wouldn't. In the divorce papers I would bet all the money in my piggy bank that he had custody of us during the summer. However, not once have we saw him and he never made a big ordeal about it until now that is. I suddenly started to panic tuning out of my mother's conversation, going somewhere without Blake? Three years ago I would have loved the new found freedom but now, I could not even bare the thought of leaving my brother. What if something was to happen but he wasn't there to save me? If this went to court my mother would surely lose, our last day at school before summer was tomorrow but I wouldn't be attending. Its not like anyone is going to show up anyways, we never do. Blake was at the park shooting hoops with some of our friends but I wanted to go home after school. He only let me go because our mom was here and I wouldn't be in any danger. By the time I had came back from reality my mother's conversation with my father was over but I heard her heels making noise as she climbed the spiral staircase. "Gracie darling," my mother began opening my door and forcing a small smile. " I have to go don't I." It wasn't really question, a statement because I already knew the outcome. "The plane leaves tomorrow at noon I tried baby girl I did." I wrapped my arms around my mom pulling her into my embrace as she tried not to cry. " I know mom, it'll be over before you know." Of course for her and I bother we knew the sad truth, it would drag on and on until we both couldn't handle it. "You'll skype call me everynight won't you?" My mother was an overly attached mom and I didn't mind it one bit, she raised to kids on her own so she was allowed to be attached. "Blake will too mom." I knew Blake would come even if that meant ruining his summer before he started college. He hated leaving me by myself as much as I hated being by myself. She nodded then blinked her eyes to force back the unshed tears then she rummaged into my closet pulling out my Louis Vutton luggage. My mother was a designer herself but she loved his works, needless to say our house was pretty clean. The only evidence that she was a designer was the pile of clothing in her office thrown everywhere and the new shipements of trucks just about every week. I heard our front door open and slam before Blake tromped up the stairs and into my room. "What's going on," he sounded curious but once he saw my luggage his eyes narrowed. " Your father called unless Grace visits him we'll go to court and he'll win anyways," my mother sighed rubbing her face. " Did he not care about me?" Henry didn't care about any of us and I wasn't sure what he was trying to pull. "You're legal now Blake unlike Gracie he can't force you to do anything," my mother looked at him with tired eyes. "I'm still going she isn't going alone." We both let out a sigh of relief knowing I would be safe. My brother hugged me tightly and I hissed in pain before he released me and looked at me. " Go pack you two I'll call your father and tell him Blake will be arriving as well." I tossed clothes off the hangers and onto my bed then pulled shorts out of my drawers tossing them onto my bed as well. After everything had nearly been cleaned out of my room clothes-wise I turned to see the heap of materials stacked up on my bed. Time to organize this giant mess, two hours later and on my final and fourth suitcase I was sprawled out ontop of it in hopes of flattening it down enough for me to zip it. "Let me," my brother laughed at my current state and zipped it right up. " I totally weakened that for you." My mother laughed at us as she stood in the door. "Well why don't you two kids get cleaned up and we'll go to dinner I'm taking today and tomorrow." I smiled at my mom she was such a strong person. "Glass House Tavern,"I suggested to which my brother groaned. My mom nodded and I ushered them out so I could get ready. Dinner wasn't anything too big and we got home later after taking a walk in Central Park and then I laid down and let sleep consume me.
