Dib's POV
I looked back at Zim to find him standing where I left him, just watching me. I turned the corner and tried not to think about everything that had just happened. But I didn't try very hard.
Several times tonight, Zim began a sentence that he never finished. And the only excuse I got was that it would "ruin everything". It must be something major. But if he's done trying to take over the world, then what could it be? Was he lying? Zim also said that I changed because he "noticed me"? Then he claims that I put a spell on him. What in the world is he hiding? It must be why the cab brought him to me.
I tried to clear my head and focus on where I was going. I had just entered the park and began to follow the trail.
About halfway through the park, I heard a rustling noise. I looked around, but saw nothing. I heard it again and stopped. I surveyed the park but couldn't find anything. Then just as I was about to continue walking, the darkness grabbed hold of me. Literally. Two hands grabbed me, one covering my mouth, the other stabbing a needle into my hip. The world began to spin and then everything went black."Whoa..." I opened my eyes and the world spun before me once again. I tried to sit up, but as I did, an excruciating pain surged throughout my body. I tried to rub my eyes, but my hands were in cuffs behind my back.
As everything came into focus, I realized that I was in a cage in a dark room. "Caged like an animal... Damn."
I heard footsteps and a blinding white light lit up the room. I gasped in shock and tried to see who was there.
"Hello there. A human of my own. Now then, what's your name?" Came a female voice. She didn't speak English very fluently, it sounded forced. And what did she mean by a human of her own? An alien?!
I looked up and saw her. She was definitely an alien. She had clawed, three fingered hands with white gloves. Her skin was a glowing blue and her eyes were an emerald shade of green. Her antennae were long and thin, bending at the middle and curled at the end. Though surprisingly, they were a hazel color instead of black. She was thin and agile, graceful as she walked towards me and quiet as a cat. She wore a long vest that trailed behind her pitch black, knee high boots. At first glance, I would've thought she was an Irken, but she can't be. Not with that colored skin of hers anyhow. And even if she was, why would the 'Almighty Tallest' send her to Earth? Zim was banished here so why bother sending another Irken to finish conquering it?
She finally reached my cage and stopped to look at me expectantly. "I asked for a name to call you, human. You are human, are you not?"
I stared for a moment longer before clearing my throat to attempt to speak. My throat was dry and my voice cracked as I spoke, "Dib. My name's Dib. And yes, I'm human. But what are you? You can't be Irken!"
She laughed for a good twenty seconds before responding, "You mean that wretched waste of a race? You humans are worth more than them. Too bad not all of your kind believes in aliens. No, I belong to the ancient Subirlians. We have been around far longer than any race and we are known all over the universe." She claimed this proudly. The more she spoke, the more I was aware of her accent. It sounded kind of British, but not exactly.
She began to circle around my cage. "Anyways, Dib. You're probably wondering why you're here." She bent down behind me and carefully began examining my hands. Her touch was gentle. Weird. "Well, I've captured you to study you so I can learn more about you're kind."
I cleared my throat and tried to keep a steady voice as I spoke. "You mean experiments? Or just studying? Cause I can answer any questions you have. There's no need to probe!"
She laughed softly as she stood up and walked around to the front of the cage before answering me. "I'm not sure yet. I think I just want to study, but I haven't decided yet. Maybe if I decide that I like you, I'll just keep you. An assistant maybe?" She tilted her head at me.
An assistant? "What kind of an assistant?"
"Oh well I travel the universe for a living. I'm a scientist of my own kind, studying as many species as I can and learning as much as I can. I've never had a partner before, but I'm sure I could adjust if I needed to." She gave me a smirk, amused with my interest in her offer. "So what do you do for a living?"
"Oh, well I don't have a job yet, but I'm studying to be a paranormal investigator. You know, Sasquatch, ghosts, aliens, that kind of thing." I could finally relax now that we weren't discussing my dissection.
She gave me an interested smile. "So we're basically into the same thing, huh? Interesting. If I like you enough, my offer might stand." She walked towards a desk and picked up a notebook and pencil and stared writing something down.
As strange as the offer was, it actually didn't sound too bad. Traveling the universe to study all different kinds of species. If she turned out to be alright, maybe I'd accept that offer. I mean it's not like anyone would care if I went missing, right? I'm sure no one even noticed that I'm gone yet. I felt a tear roll down my cheek and couldn't help but let out a quiet sob.
The world I've tried to defend all my life doesn't even care about me. And either way, the Earth shouldn't be in any harm now that Zim isn't trying to take over the world.
My eyes widened. Zim. It's the first time I've thought about him. What would he think if I went missing? He probably wouldn't care. Nobody cares. And nobody ever will. I felt more tears dance down my face. Maybe I should go with...
"Hey, what's your name?" My voice shook a little as I was trying not to cry.
"Phantom." She said from her seat at the desk. I sniffed and her antennas perked up. She looked my way. She set her stuff down and came over to me, crouching in front of me. Confusion clouded her face. "Why are you crying?"
I looked to the side. "Nothing. I'm fine."
She reached her hand through the bars of the cage and carefully placed it on my cheek. She gently turned my head and made me look at her. Sympathy and worry caged her bright eyes. "You can tell me. It's not like I can use it against you."
I was lost in those deep eyes of hers for a moment before I responded. "It's nothing. Truly."
She caressed my cheek. "Nothing doesn't cause extreme emotion and tears. What is it?"
I sighed. What harm would it be to tell her? "I've just been thinking about home. Everyone thinks I'm insane, a lost cause. I just don't fit in. And I highly doubt anyone's even noticed that I'm gone yet." I let out a sad laugh.
She pulled her hand away from my cheek and traced my collar bones as she spoke, pulling on my shirt. "I guess we're really quite alike then. I'm not really connected to my leaders anymore. Its just me, the odd one. The girl that knows too much. The Subirlian that hates destruction and death. I haven't spoken to another in ages... Just animals and creatures unable to speak. My only company." She looked behind her and I followed her line of sight.
I finally took notice of my surroundings. There were plenty of other cages, full of animals and creatures. Some were from Earth, others I had no clue. Most seemed satisfied, not alarmed or angry. Strange.
I looked back at her as she studied the material of my trench coat. "Where are we?"
"Earth, still. We're in a small base I've made. I plan on staying here for a while before moving again. Never stay for long. Never reason to." She narrowed her eyes as she reached up to carefully poke my scythe of hair. "What's up with this? All of the other humans have nothing like this."
I laughed. "All humans have hair. They're all just different naturally. And then some people color and style them to their will."
She pulled her arm out from the cage and looked at me. "Can I trust you not to escape my base?"
Would I escape? I didn't think so. To what point would it be? It's not like anyone misses me anyways... "yeah, of course not. No reason to."
She stared at me for a moment more before making a choice. She stood and walked over to her desk, picking up two keys. She kneeled in front of me and unlocked the cage. There was a click and the door swung open. She stood back.
I carefully got to my feet and squeezed through the entrance, still not having the ability to use my hands. How did she get me in here by herself in the first place?
As I stretched my legs a little, I realized how sore my body was. And then there was that annoying feeling of something sharp poking my hip. It was then that I remembered my capture.
She closed the cage door, waving the other set of keys in my face before sliding into a pocket. "Think I'll leave those cuffs on for a while. Precaution of course." She turned to leave the room and motioned over her shoulder for me to follow with her finger.
I took a few unstable steps before following her. I had no clue where we were going, but then again I didn't even really know where we were.EXPLANATION ABOUT PHANTOM:
Hey! Thanks to all of you readers that have stayed with me and read this far. I'm new here, so it means a lot to me!
Anyways, I feel that I should explain a little bit about Phantom so no one finds anything offensive or strange about her and automatically hate her. So first, I should mention her english. As Dib pointed out, she isn't very fluent in English. Her kind(the Subirlians) speak their own language. Since Phantom travels all over the world, she's had to learn many different languages, English being one of the most important. She is pretty fluent in English, only she can get a bit repetitive and she often words her thoughts strangely. So I hope I'm doing a decent job of that. Next, some people might find it strange that Phantom is becoming nice to Dib way too fast. The reason for this is that she literally hasn't talked to anyone for ages. She desperately wants someone she can trust but she knows she needs to be cautious. Also, some of you might find that Phantom is a little touchy. She is only touching Dib so much during their conversation because she is simply interested in the way humans are made. She doesn't have any feelings for Dib, it's just simply her nature to explore. [Though if you ship them together(which I highly doubt any of you would) then you can go ahead and tell yourself that she likes him. That's fine by me] Also, I figure I should mention the way she looks. She is described really close to an Irken, yet she isn't one. I did this on purpose(not to be a Mary Sue or anything, so don't accuse me of such!) so that way it creates further conflict between Zim and Phantom(for later events) about who's race is more superior even though they are quite alike. (If you still feel uneasy about them being so alike, I should probably tell you that Phantom doesn't have the Irkens' signature feature: a pak) Anyways, if you have anymore questions about Phantom, go ahead and ask. I thank all of you that actually took the time to read this whole thing. Anyways, please enjoy, comment and vote!
P.S. Please don't use Phantom without my permission as she is rightfully my character. Thanks!
