Sorry to all my readers, I've had a difficult couple of weeks and I haven't really felt the inspiration to write. This one is short but I wanted to give you guys something :)
They woke at dawn the next morning not speaking a word as they ate breakfast together.
When he couldn't take the silence anymore, he said, "Okay, look, I can't take this anymore. I hate it when people don't talk so please just say something. Anything."
"Something. Anything." it was meant to be funny for his sake but she just couldn't smile against her own sarcasm.
"You know what I mean Zarla. Look people cry, it's no big..."
She cut him off, "You don't know me, you don't know what I've been through so don't tell me how I'm supposed to be. It is a big deal I have to support everyone I've ever known and all they've ever done is die on me. Even my parents were like me and they still died. So just shut your damn trap before I shut it for you. I don't need your help Jasosn and I don't want it. I let you come with me because I thought you might be of use but if you haven't heard, I have to go find help and get back before the war starts. So if you don't mind I'd like to get going."
He paused staring in awe. She obviously has a lot of built up anger. Maybe I should just shut my trap for once and not try to help. She clearly doesn't want it.
He simplly let his gaze find the ground as she stomped past him, grabbing her little belongings.
He wondered if he should follow at all, he didn't seem to be helping any only distracting her. She had a mission and she didn't need him. She made that perfectly clear.
"You're right, Zarla. You don't need my help, but I would like it very much if you would let me help you."
She sighed, feeling defeated. Of course she couldn't let him walk away from her, and even if he did he would be drawn back to her anyways, so what was the point in fighting?
She couldn't trust him to stick around if she allowed the mating process to complete fully. He was a rouge and she had been hurt too much because the last man she loved was killed. She couldn't go through that again.
She had heard stories about when people find their, I guess you could call, soul mate. It was supposed to be the strongest love, and the hardest pull. They say that you may not know it when you are younger but if you move around a lot then it usually means that you are being pulled towards that someone.
She didn't want to be pulled to him. She didn't want to have to watch him die one day after she didn't age. She couldn't watch him grow old while she stayed 18 for the rest of her existance.
"Come on. Let's go." she said to him as she walked against the sun. He followed her quietly having a debate of his own, heart against mind.
What are you doing! You can't put everything you've done at risk for a piece of tail! his mind screamed at him.
While his heart said, You feel the pull just like I do. Go to her, make her feel it like we do, she's scared, show her you will be there for her. Show her she has nothing to be afriad of.
Why should I listen to either of you?! he yelled back to them.
For once they agreed, because either way you will listen to one of us.
Okay, both of you need to shut it, I can't think my own thoughts with you two yelling at me. I'll do what I want.
They continued walking in silence, he didn't want to push her but he needed to know if she felt anything like he did. For years he felt a pull on his heart, thus the reason he always moved around, but now that he was with her, that tug had stopped. Every time he looked at her he had to surpress a sigh of content. Just being near her was making him happy, she had touched his chest before she found the water and her touch even through clothes sent tiny sparks. He couldn't imagine what it would be like touching her skin with his hands.
What is wrong with you man?! he thought to himself, you can't go having dirty thoughts about her she'll end up seeing...
Before he could finish his thought, someone decided to make an appearance.
Joy.
Before she had a chance to see his risen friend, he turned around and adjusted himself, making it less noticable, then turned around to see her standing there, with her arms crossed over her chest, with a big grin stretched over her beautiful face.
She was absolutely stunning, standing under a spot where the sun showed through the trees making her shine under the spot light. Strands of her hair escaped her braid flowing in the slight summer breeze. The wind changed direction wafting her scent towards him, just at the smell of her his legs wanted to give out, he went weak, goosebumps raced down his arms making the hair on his neck spring to attention.
The wind shifted again, blowing his scent towards her. Breathing it in he saw her body tense, the grin fell from her face as her eyes started to fill with tears. She couldn't let him have this effect on her, she just couldn't. Her heart couldn't take the pain. If the love she heard of is the way she would feel for him, she would die if he did and she wouldn't mind, that's the worst part. She didn't even know him and he had an undeniable control over her. Just smelling him made her hormones race, when she touched his chest it left little tingles shooting up her hand and arm.
She had the sudden need to be in his arms to feel him around her, but her legs wouldn't move and neither would his.
"What are we going to do about this?" he asked.
"I don't know. I do know that I don't want this. I can't let this happen. I have a job to do, that comes first."
"Why do you care what happens to them? It's not like you can live there much longer without them noticing you don't age."
She stared blankly at him. He was right of course he was. She was pushing her limits living there as long as he did but she had no where else to go. Maybe she could find refugee with the dragons if she could ever find them.
God why is this so frustratingly difficult? She wondered. Just then a strange noise caught her attention. At first it sounded like the wind, then it started coming in waves, whatever it was that was nearing them was very large and moving very fast. She blocked her mind of any outside thoughts and relied on only her instincts. She made eye contact with Jason, nodded, then turned around and bolted, pushing as fast as she could. She ran into a clearing without thinking before coming to a dead stop when she realized it.
The thing was closing in on them, fast and they had no where to hide. When it emerged from above the trees she couldnt believe what she saw. Her jaw was on the grass before her head split with a searing pain that made her clutch her hands to her ears in attempt to block out the noise. Her knees buckled under her, she doubled over in pain that was now spreading through her body like a poison. She tried to focus on something anything to keep her awake, to fight whatever this was. But her vision started to have black spots, failing her. She felt the darkness calling her, she gladly accepted as she fell in to a peace like no other.
