I walk into class, and sit down in the same seat from before. As I wait for students to come flooding in, I rest my chin on my palm, and stare at the board. "Hey Lane." I'm a little surprise when I hear my name being called. I look up to see a Jayden smiling down at me, "Hey." I return their nice greeting. They take the chair to the right of me, and gets out their things.
They put all their things on the desk, then shifts their body to me, leaning on their knees. "So, how was you day?" They ask looking a little frigidity. "Yesterday was pretty good. How was your's?" I ask them. "Pretty good too, had some homework." They shrug, looking up to me. "Wasn't math, I know that." I joke with a little smirk on my face. "No it wasn't." They giggle at my question, and ruffle their hair. "It was English, not the best at it." They awkwardly say as they scratch the back of their neck. "What 'cha working on?" I ask looking at them. "An essay.." They sigh unsure. "I could help if you want?" I shrug looking at them. "Really?" They ask surprised. "Yeah, I'm pretty good at essays." I say with a smiles. "I'd like that." They smile to me. "Cool." I look at them. After I say that the teacher comes in and we begin the lesson, Jayden helping me with the parts I fail at.
The bell rings and we both begin to pack our things. "So, when do you want help?" I ask as we begin to walk out the door. "Oh, umm.. when are you free?" They ask, looking to me. "Umm... I don't have anything planned... like ever, besides Fridays, and Tuesdays." I shrug back to them. "I don't have a fifth period, if you want meet then." I infrom them. "Yeah, wanna meet up at the library?" They ask another question. "Sure, today?" They nod to me, as we stop at my classroom. "Cool, see ya' later." I wave to them as I walk into the partically crowded classroom.
As I turn to the row of desks, my desk was in, I see them only now starting to head to their class. I sit in my seat, and wait for the teacher to come in. "I saw him wait~." I look up to see the same boy from yesterday. "Hello to you as well David." I say in a monotone voice staring up at him. "I know you saw him." He states taking the seat in the back of me. "Yeah, so what." I say as a statement. "It's obvious!" He whisper yells in my ear. "Okay, one ow!" I whisper yell as I turn to face him, an accousing finger held in his face. "And two, get over it! We just met, calm down!" My voice still raised in a stern manner.
I huff, as I turn around and face the board, arms crossed. "Hello everyone, we are going to do the same as yesterday." The teacher states as they walk into class, as the bell goes off. I raise my hand, he points to me for me to give my question. "Speech presentation." I state, and he nods for me head to the library.
I swing my bag over my shoulder and walk to the door. I walk through the halls, my sandals clicking against the floor. I turn into the library multiple chairs lined in a neat half circle, a large space in the middle. I look around to see none of my friends are here, so i take a seat in the last row.
I drop my bag beside me and take out a binder, with some paper in it. I also take my phone out of my pocket and lay it on the red binder. The teacher stands in the center and introduces the reason for the presentation. I half listen, as i scroll through my Instagram feed.
I look up when I hear Janice's name and look up from my phone. She looks at me with terror in her eyes. I smile and give her a thumbs up. She smiles back and starts her presentation. She recites a poem by Amar Qamar, titled Something Lost. (Poem is above, if you wanna read it.)
