CHAPTER THREE
JAMES DROVE SLOWLY towards the end of La Aldea del Rio, an exclusive consign where the rich could build their dream houses, mansions or estates.
There's no music playing from the stereo to fill the silence. Hindi ko alam kung wala lang ba talaga kaming masabi sa isa't isa or maybe it's because we're both dreading our arrival at the estate.
I really missed James though. It's been what? Three – almost four – years? He was the last person I expected to come and be here with me today. Yes, he was close to the family but he left all those years ago to live in States with his grandfather.
"Clara, the performing arts guild will be in charge of the open house two weeks from now. And since you are the president of the guild, I want you to be the one responsible and taking charge of everything. I trust that you can do it?" Miss Amy, our club instructor, asked. Well, it was more like she was telling me and I really don't have a say on the matter. So...
I gave her my of-course-I'll-do-everything-you-say smile. "Of course, Miss Amy. I'll do my best."
"Here are the details you might need." She handed me a long white folder with an obviously thick stack of papers inside. "It has the permits that are already signed, the list of performers for the highlight event, details about what should and what should not happen during the event, activities that are allowed and activities that are not, details about the budget, etcetera, etcetera."
"Is that all, Miss?" tanong ko sa kaniya pagkatapos niyang isa-isahin ang lahat na detalye tungkol sa event.
"Yes, that should be all." She paused, as if she was trying to remember something. "Oh, a group of male students from the Higher Education Department volunteered to do the manual work so you don't have to worry about that. They'll probably in the high school gym already."
"Okay, Miss. I'll head there right away."
I sighed.
This open house is very important for the Upper Bed Education Department or High School Department of the University. We have to convince the visiting elementary students to enroll in our university for high school.
I'm the president of the performing arts guild, for Christ's sake!
Bahala na. I'll just wing it as usual.
The girls are seemingly busy with making some sort of decorations.
Lumapit ako kay Marice, she was holding the megaphone. "Marice, pahiram ako." ani ko. Inabot naman kaagad niya ito sa akin.
"Ehem. Ehem." I cleared my throat before speaking first.
"OKAY! EVERYBODY, LISTEN UP! I'VE GOT ANNOUNCEMENTS TO MAKE!" my voiced boomed and echoed through the gym. Everybody stopped whatever they're doing and looked my way. "Can we guys huddle? It would be easier for me to talk to all of you."
