I walked along the long since forgotten sidewalks of New York nobody was around except rotting corpses if you called them people, they were people before the plauge wiped out everybody, except kids under the age of 14. I had a good 3 years before I had to worry about that though, still the corpses reminded me of his parents, lying in hospital beds still as boards slowly dying. I shook the thought from my head I was supposed to be hunting not day dreaming. A light blanket of snow began to cover the ground, I needed to hurry up or else the other kids could track me back to base.
I made it back to the old Loves gas station which I called base, with three cans of gasoline one which clipped to his belt and another two in his hands. I had avoided making any tracks in the snow. I had to set down one of the gas cans to open the door but I managed to slip in with all three gas cans. I set all the gas down and shut the blinds in all the windows, they were already so dirty and grimy already you could hardly see through them but it made me feel safer when they were closed. I turned around and looked at the base. I kept its dark gray floors clean but I hadn't swept it in a couple days because I'd been scavenging for winter. This reminded me of bears they load up on food all fall and sleep all winter. The only difference was I couldn't sleep all winter for two reasons: 1 the weather was always changing one day it would be minus 24 degrees then the next lol morning you would wake up covered in sweat in the 100 degree temperature 2 gangs always came around in cold days.
I hoisted the gas to the generator in the basement and dumped the 3 cans into the generator. I climbed back up to the main floor, and that's when I heard it a faint rumble like cars and trucks made when they drove, I looked out the window and saw a group of kids in a army truck with the name Bandits written in black sharpie dump something out of their green truck and drive away. I grabbed the metal baseball bat I kept by my door since I didn't have a gun, and slowly made my way outside and towards the package if you would call it that. I walked up to a big blanket wrapped around something when I pulled off the blanket I realize it's not a package it's a person!
