The whole group managed to be ready in about 14 minutes which is a surpringly long time 7 people. "Hey, why are we going to Washington DC?" I asked Brooke. "To find the cure," Brooke said simply as if that explained it all. My mind flashed back when my parents were infected with the plauge. "We'll find the cure," the doctor had said as though he was trying to convince himself of it. My mind came back to the real world, Brooke was staring at me with curiosity. "Just remembering stuff," I said. She looked satisfied.

"My back hurts," Dominic complained. We had just barely started and Dom was already complaining. "Dom, we haven't even walked for 10 minutes, pull it together," Danson growled. I heard Dom groan from behind me. I could barely stifle my laughter. I glanced at Lucy, her and Ed were slowly spreading from the group. I kept throwing glances over to their direction to see them disappear behind a large boulder that littered the small dirt path. I glanced to NY right to realize we were nearing a huge gorge that had a roaring river raging over the large boulders that lye in the river.

Suddenly I heard something that sounded like sticks breaking from behind me. I spun around hoping to find Ed or Lucy but instead found myself faced with nothing but the occasional tree and the long grass that wound its way through the long wheat field.

Damn I was paranoid there was nothing out here but grass and dead trees!

I sighed, I was frustrated with myself. Four years of no human contact except for raiders, has driven me crazy but still, it also kept me alive.

It was right then and there I figured out paranoia was a good thing in times like these.

"Maybe we should walk in the gorge," Danson called out to everybody. Maybe I wasn't paranoid. Maybe, just maybe.
