Luca's P.O.V.
I had no idea who that girl was, only that I couldn't get her out of my mind. She was beautiful and just, wow. I was almost in a trance as I walked into the forest.
Who was she? I asked myself over and over again. I knew I recognized her but I just couldn't place who she was. It was giving me a headache.
"Luca!" I heard my best friend shout as I stepped through the trees.
He nudged me with his head and I rubbed the top it while laughing lightly.
I never understood why he loved his Unicon form but there was nothing wrong with it so I didn't see why it mattered.
A lot of people made the mistake of thinking we were just people that could shapeshift but really we just kept our human form a lot because it more convenient.
"Hey there Alex," I said. "What's up?"
"Just missed my buddy," he replied and butted me gently with his head again.
We had been friends since before we were born so we were really close. We knew everything about each other and always trusted each other.
I laughed again and hugged his neck. Man hug of course. I let go as he shifted back to his human form.
Luckily for us when we shifted our clothes stayed on. Saves us from a lot of embarrassment.
We hugged after he shifted then walked to the path to our favorite spot by the lake.
"Something really weird happened earlier," I admitted to him as we sat down on the rock pile.
He looked at me and smirked, he always knew me do well.
"Who's the girl?" He asked and wiggled his eyebrows at me.
I groaned in response and face palmed. He laughed at my reaction.
"I don't know who she was, I barely saw her. I was using my energy ring to regenerate a dying patch in the meadow and accidently blinded her," I said in a rush. "She freaked and ran."
"Woah man, that's bad," Alex sympathized. "What are you gonna do? Poor girl's probably going insane."
"Ya think?!" I groaned. "Funny think is that I felt so drawn to her. When she ran it was like a piece of me broke. It was so freaking strange," I ranted.
He hummed and leaned back against the rocks. He started the annoying tongue clicky thing he did when he was deep in thought and I groaned.
"A little help would be nice," I muttered.
The clicking got louder and I face palmed. Why? I asked myself.
I looked out at the lake and focused on the beaver dam on the left side. It wasn't the most entertaining thing in the world but at least it got my mind off things. Of course now that I thought about my mind being off things it went back to them.
I groans again and started hitting my head on the heel of my hand repeatedly.
"Dude, you need to chill," Alex stated.
I groaned again. My head hurt so bad I couldn't seem to calm down. It was like everything was closing in on my and I being crushed from all directions.
"You've known me long enough that this isn't weird at all okay?" He asked and hugged me.
"Yes, this is just a manly hug of friendship........"
We looked at each other and quickly jumped apart. We shuddered and looked away.
"Let's get home....." Alex suggested.
I nodded and we started walking back to the clearing.
I still couldn't get that girl out of my head. I barely saw her but she haunted me. The expression 'like a moth drawn to a flame' comes to mind when I think about it.
"Still thinking about her?" I jumped when I heard Alex speak.
I nodded and looked sideways at him.
"There's no possible way to get her out of my head," I complained. "I barely saw her but she's haunting me. My every thought is about her now. I don't know what to do," I confided.
"Man, you're in a huge pickle there. Wish I could help but there's nothing I can do."
I groaned for the millionth time today. Does he ever quit with the stupid ass humor? I thought about it and realized that the only time he had ever paused it was when my dad had killed Damon's (the Devil's) youngest daughter. Damon had made it clear that he planned to torture me and kill me when I turned twenty-one. My dad didn't know that I knew about it but damn sure I did.
Quite frankly, I was afraid. This was Damon, not just another person. He was more powerful than anyone, even my dad who was obviously the Unicorn King.
The Devil's only weakness was his remaining daughter. She was his heart as well as his weakness. She was all he had left after his wife and baby had died.
No one knows how his wife died, even he has no idea from what I've heard. Being the Devil and all, he had a lot of enemies. I knew for sure that we would always be enemies.
"What color hair?" Alex's voice ripped me from my thoughts.
"Brown," I replied without actually thinking about it.
"Hot," he murmured and retreated back into his head.
I groaned again, he was definitely the weirdest creature on Earth. He had his own way about things. Dumb humor aside, he was pretty detached mentally. It didn't bother his family or me much but a lot of people were annoyed by it.
We finally reached the clearing which was really chaotic for some reason. We glanced at each other, then quickly walked to where the main bustle was to see what was going on.
Two of our watch team was there with my dad and several of the higher class Unicorns. One of the watch team had his hand held out and in it was a floral bracelet.
"What's the big to do?" I asked curiously.
"We found this in the meadow near a patch of regenerating grass. It belongs to Trisha, the devil's daughter. We are not sure what exactly happened but it is our belief that one of our own was regenerating, got into conflict with the girl and she killed them. We don't know who it was but the girl will pay," one of the watcher's said confidently.
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Trisha was the girl from the meadow. She was who I was obsessed with?!?!
