Fidelity POV

I woke up to the birds singing outside. I sat up and stretched my aching limbs. I looked around the room and saw that Bailey wasn’t there anymore. I sat up and went to the living room area to see that Emmy was gone as well. That’s weird. I usually wake up before either of them.

Their big girls, they can handle themselves. I go to the kitchen to make some desperately needed coffee when I see a note sticking to the fridge.

Hey babe. Bailey and I have gone to the mall for an emergency shopping trip.  See you later. – Emmy.’

Well, guess I have the whole day to myself. I descided to go for a run in the park. It was a sunny day, so why not? I went to my room to change into a pair of workout clothes and running shoes. On my way out, I picked up my phone and ear buds.

I jogged to the park while listening to music. The little hairs on the back of my neck stood up, and I got the sensation that I was being watched. I shrugged it off, and declared it nothing. When I reached the park I sped up to feel the wind on my face. This is what I love about running. Some people run to think about things, but I run for the opposite. When I run, I think about nothing.

“Excuse me, Mam.” I skidded to a halt when I saw a little boy in front of me. He was blonde and had innocent eyes. I squatted down to his height. He couldn’t of been more than 5 years old. Where were his parents?

“Can you get my Frisbee from the tree?” he asked. The boy pointed to a tree from behind me. I turned around and gulped. These were really tall trees. I just hope that he didn’t throw it up that high.

“Sure, let’s see what we can do.” I stood up and was surprised when he grabbed hold of my hand. I looked down at him and saw determination on his face. I laughed and he looked up at me confused, but pleased. As if making me happy made him happy. This is the cutest little boy I have ever seen.

He led me to a tree, and I spotted a bright yellow Frisbee in it about 15 feet up. I’m not a climbing expert. I climb trees as well as the next person, but it’s not undoable.

I turned toward the boy and pointed up to the tree. “Did you throw that up there?” I ask. He looks sheepish and looks at his feet. “Yeah.” I barely hear.

I look up at the tree again. “Nice.” I say. I hold out my hand and he high fives me. He’s smiling now.

‘Ok. Let’s get this boy’s Frisbee out if the tree.’ I think. I wrap my hands around a branch. It looks sturdy enough. I pull myself up until I’m now standing on the branch with one hand on the trunk for balance. I can hear the little boy cheering me on from the ground.

Only a little more ways to go. I think? I grab another branch. This one looks a little less sturdy, but  hoist myself onto it anyway. It wobbles a little bit, and I fight to keep my balance.

“Be careful!” I hear the little boy from below say. With a stretch; I finally get ahold of the Frisbee. That’s when my luck ran out. I was about to hop to the lower branch when a squirrel came from the other side of the tree. I screamed and lost my balance.
