CHAPTER1

I open my eyes and see my puppy Skylar standing in front of me on the bed. She kinda looks like a dachshund. No one really knows what she is. We got her from one of the shelters I volunteer at. I move my head and she turns around fast and starts licking my face like a maniac. I look at the clock. It's six o'clock already. I feel like crying. I honestly hate school so much. I try to get up but my beast of a dog Roman is on the floor next to my bed. He gets up and walks around in a circle.

"Hey roamie" I say in my puppy voice.

He wags his tail and howls at me. I howl back at him then laugh to myself. Skylar jumps off the bed and starts to bite Romans collar. I walk towards the door as the terrible two follow behind me. I open the door and walk into the hallway. I go downstairs and feed the dogs and let them outside. I walk outside with them and stand on the edge on the deck. I look up.

"So today is the first day of Spring huh?" I say to myself. "Oh wait no, Not until 12:57...C'mon guys." I yell to the dogs. I walk upstairs and get two towels from the closet. I walk into the bathroom. I take off my clothes and look into the mirror above the sink. I just sigh and get into the shower.

I get out of the shower and walk into my room. I turn on the big lights then the little white Christmas icicle lights that are strung up around the top of my black walls. I turn on my straightener even though my hair is pin straight. I only use it because it dries my hair way faster than a hair dryer.

I put on some John Carroll University sweatpants and a Grey Hoodie. "Fuck you spring" i thought to myself giggling when i realized everyone was going to be in skirts and dresses.

I grab my softball bag and my mom drives me to school.

"Anne?"

"Yeah? what do you want Kodi?"

"Will you home school me?"

"We have been over this a thousand times before Dakota! No it will never happen!"

She sounded really pissed so i just looked out the window until we got there.

I got out of the car and got all of my softball stuff.

"Am I picking you up from softball today?" she asked still sounding pissed.

"No" I said sternly "Vitaly said he would pick me up today."

"I don't like that boy." she said as if i cared what her opinion was. "He is trouble"

"Do you want to pick me up today?" I snapped at her. With that i closed the trunk of the car and walked inside.

It was 7:58. The chances of me being on time for class were as high as the chances of me getting home schooled. I slowly walked to the closet where i put my softball stuff and put my bag there. I went to my locker and got all of my stuff out of my locker. The late bell rang and i shut my locker. I knew my teacher would not care. She is adopted too. I guess that's our "connection". She always talks about how important it is to have a "connection" with your teacher.

I walk into class and everyone stares at me. I look over at my friend Patrick and he taps the seat next to him. Wow sometimes i really love this kid. Miss. Canery looks over at me waiting for an excuse. "I had to put my softball stuff in the closet and it all fell out of the bag when i was there." She just nodded and started teaching again. I walk over and sit next to Patrick.

"Kodi what the hell! You're always late!" He whispered as i sat down.

"Indeed" I opened up my binder and started doodling. Language arts is the most annoying class and my worst one.
