VI Bitter

Max watched as the door splintered more and more with every blow. He was surprised that the iron frame had held together this long, that is until he saw that Greylin and Rom were busy casting spells; likely to keep the door together for as long as possible.

Max looked to his right, and there against the wall was perhaps the only table that hand not been overturned. He saw a plate of untouched food there next to a cup of spilled wine. Max touched the large and inviting biscuit on the plate. It was still slightly warm to the touch. He picked it up and bit into it.

“It is good?” Justin asked looking on with some desire to have a bite. Max swallowed and handed the rest to Justin saying: “Bitter”.

Justin went to bite the biscuit anyway, as the door finally shattered unleashing the hell outside into the Tiger's Eye.

The instant noise and calamity erupted like a volcano of flesh and conflict. Both Max and Justin rushed forward with the others to meet the enemy pouring in like an evil tide. The first two enemy were two of the ogres wielding the ram, which crashed forward a short distance into the doorway. The two ten foot masses of hunched muscle and bone lived only a fraction of a second as arrows from Aedorn and Theon snuffed them out with deep head shots. They collapsed and were not even seen hitting the floor for the rush of Helam, Flind, Gnoll, Ogre and Orc behind them. They were trampled over their backs even before their lifeless faces hit the wooden floor of the Tiger's Eye.

Max's flail took the next victim, a speedy tall Flind's face totally caved in under the tremendous velocity and power of Max's swing. Max seemed to once again grow in size and ferocity, and raged forward like a half-grizzly on the rampage with his mace following fast after his flail.

Justin leapt forward taking the arm of a Helam and the head of an Orc with his first two blows. Near him Krista Dell and Pepper worth work another ogre to death with sword and rapier while avoiding narrowly the nearly successful death blow of a Gnoll champion's pole axe. The Gnoll turned to attack the two women from behind, and died as he raised his axe again from a close range arrow from Merelie that stripped off the flights off the arrow as the arrow passed out of the roaring Gnoll's mouth from the back of its neck, and luckily into the forehead of a Helam that had just stood up from tripping over the second dead ogre.

The Valleyerz Brothers poured into the fight with Attikus and Muzz Quinby from what was effectively the enemies flank in that space now made suddenly small by the mass of hideous evil pouring in. Attikus and Muzz managed to find places to fill in the fight between the Valleyerz brothers that fought like a well trained unit of heavy infantry. They seemed to know each other movements unspoken and uncommanded. Such was the fury and effectiveness of this assault that they managed to kill every enemy before them, and for a moment, no living enemy could be found inside the Tiger's Eye.

There was even the briefest moment of silence, that exploded into renewed calamity when a second surge exploded through the open door. An ogre Killed James Valleyerz with a spear that was more a kin to a beam. The weight of the weapon took James off his feet and sideways well inside the Tiger's eye to his death.

Marcus Valleyerz was also grievously wounded when he managed to bury his sword into the neck of the offending Ogre, but in doing so his weapon was hopelessly lodged in the dying beast, making Marcus vulnerable long enough for an enterprising Orc to stick Marcus deep into the back with a crooked and rust knife.
