The Lost Jewel

Chapter 1- The Ninja Master

It was a dark and gloomy day. Mr. Wee walked home slowly. As soon as he reached home, he immediately went to his cellar. He unlocked the door by saying out a voice-activated password. He entered and went to the big, brown box in the middle of the room. He opened it and took out a small, brass, rusty key.

He sighed and said to himself, “For the past 30 years, the key to the lost jewel has been safe as I had taken care of it. Now, I am old and the enemy is coming. I cannot defeat him and he will take the key. Then, he will unlock the cave containing the lost jewel, take the jewel and use it to rule the world. I must use the forbidden spell to transform my body to a younger stage.”

Mr. Wee closed his eyes and sat on the floor with his fingers curled. He began to mutter a strange chant and slowly, his body began to change. His wrinkles disappeared, his beard disappeared, his hair turned from white to black and his body became fitter and more built. After the process, he opened his eyes again and stood up. All of a sudden, his sharp ears picked up a sound. It was a familiar sound. It was the sound of the enemy’s footsteps. He smiled and cracked his own neck, waiting for the enemy to arrive.

Matt opened the newspaper that he had just bought. The headlines screamed, “Ninja master killed on a mission! Body found outside police station!” Matt jumped up and punched the air. It was the June holidays and he was looking for a case to solve. He had opened his own detective club at the age of eight. Now, he was already fifteen, with his girlfriend, Fiona. The detective club’s headquarters is located at Matt’s home. His mother had let him use the empty storeroom for his headquarters.

His detective club included himself, his girlfriend Fiona, his best friend Peter, whom everybody calls Pete, Pete’s girlfriend Penny, and his primary school friend Toby. He decided to call everyone to come to HQ. He started sending out text messages to the four members and thought about the case. The first thing he needed to know was where the murder took place, why the murder took place, and so on. Only one person could help him do that and that person was his dead father’s best friend, Sergeant See.

As he thought of Sergeant See, he also thought of his father. His mother and he had witnessed his father’s death. His father, Tony, had died in the hands of the notorious criminal, Scar Face. Scar face had shot him with an AK 47. It was a miracle that Tony was still alive, badly wounded. Scar Face grew so mad that he decapitated Tony. Sergeant See came in with a SWAT team to arrest Scar Face but the latter escaped, leaving his father’s corpse behind. Since then, Sergeant See and Matt had sworn to have their revenge on Scar Face.

He dialed the sergeant’s number and was disappointed to find that he was engaged. He thought more about his father. He had only been eight when his father died. The front door flew open and Fiona came in. She was always early. Toby came next. The others, Pete and Penny, were late. After waiting for a while more, they finally appeared… with Sergeant See. Sergeant See smiled at Matt. Matt realized that Pete had called the sergeant earlier, so the sergeant had been engaged. Matt started to discuss the case with Sergeant See while the others listened intensively. Matt was about to ask Sergeant See where the murder place was and could he bring them there when a bullet shot through the window.

Moments later, more bullets smashed through the window. They were targeting the investigators and the sergeant. Sergeant See immediately pushed Matt to the ground. The others dived to the ground too. Sergeant See took out his revolver and fired a few shots at the window. He ducked but all he could hear was silence. Sergeant See jumped through the window and landed softly on the grass. He looked around but saw no one. He returned back to Matt’s bedroom. They were crowding around Toby. Sergeant See walked towards Toby and saw blood…
