Taking Off

I groaned as I rubbed my closed eyes. I slowly opened my eyes and checked the time on my IPhone. It was only 8:09 AM and I still had some time before Miach would be waking up. I sighed; I didn't want to have to leave and fight another stupid war against innocents. I still would look at them as innocents even if they attacked first. They were merely fighting for their lives. I rolled over on my other side and shut my eyes. I wanted to get even more sleep before I'd be expected to take off for Oakwoods.

When I woke up again it was 11:23 AM. I climbed out of bed and got into the shower. After shampooing my hair and washing my body I dried myself off. I pulled on some sweatpants and a hoodie before I wandered downstairs. Miach gave me a guilty smile when I saw her watching tv in the living room. I flashed her a smile before I pulled out some leftover Chinese food from the other night. I planned on doing some work in my office and then take a nap. Yes, I planned on taking a nap. I wanted to be prepared for when we left later that night since I didn't know when I'd have the opportunity to sleep next. I continued eating my brunch as I thought of what I wanted to get done today. I washed my dishes before I walked into the living room.

"Hey, Thanos," Miach smiled at me. I greeted her back and sat down on the other couch.

"Miach...I'm not sure if that prick-I mean jerk-informed you of what's going on, but I'm leaving tonight," I told her, "I won't be back for a little over a week."

"Where are you going?" She asked me with wide eyes.

"My father plans to...attack another pack," I admitted. My eyes drifted to the television. I smiled a small smile when I saw she was watching Prison Break.

     "What pack?"

"The Oakwoods Pack," I answered, looking back at her. She nodded and turned her attention to the television.

     "What'll I do when you're away?"

"In my basement there's a small tunnel. The tunnel leads to the packhouse. It's like a safe room, but in a tunnel version, I guess you could say. I have food and water and a very small bathroom once you get about halfway to the packhouse. You could stay there for a few days," I answered. She looked at me with a shy smile.

"May I use your phone when you're away? To make the time go by faster?"

"Of course," I nodded, "I have a few books too, if you're interested." She decided she'd go to the small library by my room to find some books to bring down there. I wanted to show her it after I finished some paperwork.

After I finished a good amount of paperwork on the location of other packs and the numbers of those in the pack, I decided I'd bring her down to the tunnel. She was crawling behind me in the small hole that could easily fit a man half a size bigger than me. The tunnel had little lights along the walls. We were a little ways away from the small circular clearing. I smiled when we finally reached our destination. The area was about 5 feet by 5 and a half. There was a toilet in on the right side and a small metal box across from the toilet. In the box was a wool blanket, a pillow, and some cans of food with a can opener. I squatted in the area that was empty and Miach was still huddled over in the entrance.

"Wow," She whispered, "This is insane!" I smiled and nodded.

"Yes. It was built when my great-grandfather was Alpha. He was paranoid about an attack, so he had these built in all the surrounding houses. There's a big room in the packhouse that is treated as a panic room," I told her, "This tunnel leads right to it." She looked around the small room.

"Sounds like a genius," She murmured, "but won't Nathanious know about it?"

"I don't think he will. He wasn't apart of our pack; he was a rouge who teamed up with my father. I doubt my father would mention it to him," I answered. She nodded her head and we started to crawl back to the house. By the time we got out and hid the entrance it was already 8 PM. I helped gather some of the books Miach wanted to read and grabbed my IPhone charger, thankful that there was an outlet where she'd be staying. Around 8:30 we crawled back to the little bunker and said our goodbyes. Miach was holding back tears and I was trying to stay calm, reminding her I'd always protect her. I reached my father's house at 8:55 and waited outside with a few others. With five minutes before our departure there were about 30 of us. We were waiting for my father and four of his buddies to make an appearance.
