"Yikes, this job sounds tough. Did you hear what the Professor said?"
"Yes, Raoul. We were all there."
"Yes dear, but look at all of this new gear! Like these communicators, to wirelessly talk to each other! Like the telephone but....NOT!!"
"Raoul, your speaking like your IQ just dropped, and there wasn't a lot to start out with..."
"Honey, how'bout you keep it professional, we're on the job"
"Growls"
"Heeyyy, there's our honeymooners!!!"
"Raoul, keep it down!!" Lucille hissed beside him.
"Raoul, our honeymoon was over a week ago" - Emile
"Oh, I don't know about that. I think our whole life can be our honeymoon"
"Aren't you full of great ideas" he leaned in to kiss Maude.
"Okay, we get it! Your in love, your married, now help me with this leg."
"Shouldn't we get ready when everyone's here like the professor said? Franceour and Odette are still coming with Charles with the oxygen packs and Charles has the equipment evaluations"-Maude
"I think it's just a fault in his brain that he never listens to the professor. That fault is what our adventurous lives are built upon"
"Emile, you were just as guilty, your the one that followed me in with your camera. And I do listen to the professor, tell'em Lucille."
"Oh, pardon darling, your voice was getting on my nerves so I tuned out. It was lovely but extremely short lived."
"Your the light of my life"
"I sure as hell am! Besides if it weren't for Raouls stupidity we wouldn't have Francoeur"
Everyone nodded and made confirmed sounds of agreement.Something was blocking la Seine's channels. There had been heavy, early summer showers and there were risks of having another flood but not as drastic as last years. Paris's unfortunate drowning.
Catherine No.2 stealthily creaked to a stop in front of the present group right next to a docking channel of le Seine were the blockage seemed to be originating from.
The externally bright headlights switched off, the area only eliminated by the skylights of the city once more.
A small figure lept out the open window to meet with the group clutching papers in one of its hands.
"Your late my friend" Raoul quipped. The figure made a noise that you could tell Charles was rolling his eyes.
He held up a card to Emile who switched on his torchlight.
He read out loud "'I'm right on time. It's 2:00am sharp.' Oh good I though we were late!" Emile chuckled.
The back door to the Delivery truck lifted with equipment being unloaded.
"Got everything?" Raoul asked a very tall, broad figure coming towards them with their many arms filled with supplies. He gave a thumbs up by his only free hand and his wide luminescent eyes grinned.
"Darling, you almost forgot these" a more slighted, shorter and wispy body came around holding two arm fills of rectangular boxes.
"Thank you" Francoeur whispered yet was more like a chirp.
"Alrighty then! Let's get this show on the road!" Raoul said by a loud whispering. Tugging the other leg of the suit he previously unpacked.
"Raoul is coming with us now?" Odette directed here curious question to Lucille.
They all wore their working uniforms, not quite uniforms but they were clothing required. Men and women practically wore the same articles of clothing so everyone would feel comfortable, practical, not held tight or down with unease dart arrivals of clothing, yet useful. But it didn't mean the outfits were without a sort of style. They all agreed that they were taken with the enginuitive looks.
"Practically begged the professor to be part of the field work this time. Plus he says he knows how to swim" Lucille answered looking unimpressing even in the low light.
"Well I was stuck on guard duty last week while all of you were having a blast!" Raoul heaved trying to get inside the thin fabric.
"Blast is right! Almost would have blew up the museum! And it was in the bird exhibit, you would have had a sneezing attach again." Emile provided the heavy yet small communicators from Odette.
"Hey that case at the zoo was a fluck and that emu was asking for it!" Raoul provided finally ending his struggle with the suit to see that Lucille and Odette put theirs on effortlessly in half the time.
"That's not what the emu told me. She said her name was Greg, she seemed nice."Francoeur said pleasantly, checking on the riggs of all their suits at once with his many long arms and hands.
"Never trust birds, they're evil" Raoul said seriously looking almost far away for a moment before Lucille patted him roughly on the solder to gar him "Don't worry, you just haven't found the right one yet Raoul. There are plenty birds in the sky" she motioned to the night sky as she chuckles quietly.
"What do I need a bird for when I got a rare one right here!" He said also patting Lucile's back "Um Raoul, you do know that's the Cabernets Name, I'm the Angel of Mormont" she said trying to correct him.
"Meh, same stick different tree" he shrugged. "You ladies ready?" He asked.
"Raoul, get Francoeur to help you put on your oxygen extractor or we're going without you" Odette teased under her sealed helmet.
"Girls, am I right buddy" he grumbled to Francoeur. "Well, all girls are friendly to me." Francoeur confessed not quiet knowing the meaning of Raouls statement.
"Friendly is one way of putting it my friend. They're practically like moths to a flame for you" he stated.
"No not like moths. Most of them are as pretty but their actually quiet creepy" francoeur talked on hushly but animatedly. He was always a talker when up so late "I met a moth once, they were strange but they're like cute, fuzzy odd butterflies..." he trailed of trying to explain them.
"Better not tell Odette, she might get a little jealous saying that moths are cute when she's your "odd butterfly."You wouldn't think so but Maudes the jealous type" Emile tried to say in a hushed voice but his wife still could hear as she was going over the papers with Charles
"You are just completely oblivious when the whole ladies section of a department store are giving you doe eyes. There is only one con when married to someone who is blind to his handsomeness" Maudes cooed and teased warmheartedly, bating her big ink like lashes in the dark that only Emile could see.
"Oh, they're waiting on the edge for us." Francoeur said motioning to Lucille and Odette inspecting the depths. He brought the three rig clips for their suits attached to pulls that weighed a ton but nothing to Francoeur.
"Ya ya, I'm coming" Raoul waddled as best he could to join them.
Emile switched on all three communicators that connected to the ones in their helmets, instantly making an insetlinh high pitched noise that made the suit wearers grip their helmets.
"Oops! Sorry about that guys!" Emile apologized, turning the interception down on all three. "Can you all talk to each other?" He asked, testing.
"I'm clear to go!" Raoul said. "Raouls sounds clear" Lucille voiced. "Everyone sounds clear" Odette confirmed last.
"Alright, torches on then" Emile instructed and the group a distance away turned on their attached underwater torch lights.
"Wow geez, you all look like you should be in a Jules Vern story! Gosh I wish I had may camera!" Emile mussed.
"And I officially name that as your catch fraise" Raoul commented adjusting his light.
"I haven't said it often enough to make in my catch fraise!" Emile defended but Maude made a debatable sound next to him. He sighed"how many times"
"14"
"What?!"
"No. 24 only this week. He says it at home too" Maude put in over the communication as audible laughs could be heard from Lucille and Odette's communicators.
"24 times?! If so it's not a catch fraise, it's a problem!" Emile confirmed. "But it's an adorable problem" Maude pinched his cheek "I guess you'll have to stifle the urge like holding in a sneeze." "Oh no that's the worst! Always gives me a head ache" Raouls staticky voice dropped in. "Then you were holding it in much too hard" Odette giggled, her mind always going to her wit when staying up in the late hours.
Lucille snickered with her. Charles weary but commanding noises while pulling out a card for Maude next to him.
"He's right everyone, quite dollying and get a move on. By tomorrow the channels will be overflowing again" Maude recited."Eye-hye, captain Nemo" Raoul saluted and jumped backward into le Seine channel, holding onto the edge.
"All of you be carful, the professor said he still doesn't know what's down there" Francoeur cautioned while securing Odettes harness having done Raouls and Lucilles beforehand.
"I'm still surprised that all the field test groups members are pedestrians. You'd think they would only let engineers and scientists to handle this equipment not simpletons like us" Odettes voice could be heard though her helmet. "Or are you just meaning this ton of simple right next to me" Lucille jested to Raoul right beside her. "Geez your on a roll tonight aren't you?" Raoul rolled his eyes but couldn't help a grin, their baiting each other was always affectionate.
"I think every one of you is ingenuous in your own way" Francoeur reassured with that honest heart of his. Odette couldn't help beaming at his comment, he turned even sweater when he was tired.
"Can you two take a quick brake from staring into each other's souls for a moment, I wanna get this over with. Dark water give me the creeps" Raoul jittered in the depthless water with Lucile beside him trying to hold back a quip. "You all be carful" Francoeur said again to the three and gave Odettes hand a final squeeze before retreating back to the others.
"I wish I could go with them..." He sighed as they saw the three descend into the liquid made black by the night, heads disappearing.
"Ya we know you do" Emile tried to comfort him "but you know how you are around water Francoeur" his shorter friend smiled sadly.
"Ya..." Francoeur mumbled in defeat. They had been working on it. There where still many things to conform to in his new world. It took a lot of practice but he now could go out in the rain with no incident yet very heavy showers unnerved him a little still. But yet he still couldn't very much be near big bodies of water. Odette said maybe one day she's teach him how to swim in the ocean. Her family had a holiday house there.
Francoeur thoughts came back when the divers pulley attachment stopped momentarily and then Lucile came in on her communicator "We're at the bottom of the channel".
