She looked over the edge
Dazzling colors and dizzying abstractions
Rose up to eyes and fell
The earth was peppered with sunbeams
An amber wonder
That melted into clarity
The hue of the canyon was sharp and strong
Like jagged tar invading pavement
Her breath flew from her mouth
And traveled deep
Deep into the crevice
On a search for sooner adventure
A pebble dipped and dropped
Cutting through the air of song
"Too close to the edge,"
The eagle called her
She looked first up
And down again
Seeing its shadow ride the limestone waves
But she liked the edge
Allure of danger and of refuge
A paradox of grace
She tasted rich in bittersweet
Heartbeat fast in strange delight
She dove.
Wings ruffled.
