Prologue:

“I love you…”

Three words.

Dripping with sincerity and that edge of shyness that makes everything more meaningful.

And it should have split my sides with joy. Made my heart jump and jitter and my skin tingle.

But no.

Even though the words rang true from his perfect rose lips, I didn’t feel it.

Like an out-of-body experience. I feel like an outsider.

And that hurt.

Made me feel more than his words did.

My head shakes as my heart breaks.

“But I love you!” His words now harsh and demanding. The man that I know better than the shy stranger that said them before.

“I don’t love you.”

The words are lies. Utter crap.

But love isn’t enough sometimes.

Sometimes you need to invest more than your heart.

And he is incapable of that.

And I can’t be the only one giving.

Is love ever enough?
