Melissaand Joe were sitting outside on the grass, looking at the stars andtalking about everything, like young teenagers while the loud musiccoming from Joe's apartment was echoing in their ears. It was silentfor a few minutes but it wasn't awkward at all, it was a goodsilence. Joe took a deep breath, inhaling the cold air hitting hisface, his eyes looked up to the full moon and he smiled, enjoying themoment. "Do you ever realize how big our world is? Like it has somany secrets and so many things that we might never see and I findthis so inspiring." Melissa blurred out, having Joe's fullattention. "I mean we're not even a little part of it and it makesme so curious. I want to explore the world so much." She stated andJoe smiled at her words. She was so smart and curious about everylittle thing that the world had to hide. His eyes moved from the skyto her face. She was gorgeous and so unaware of it. "Why are youhere then? You should be travelling and wandering." The dark blondeboy asked, keeping his gaze on her. He watched the way her dimpleswere showing as she smiled wider, she hated this little detail abouther but if only she knew how he loved it. "Because I like beinghere. It's a beautiful place and It feels like home. It all dependson the people we are with." She explained and Joe kept studying herface as their glances met. He frowned at her answer, confusion itchedacross his face as he slowly felt his heartbeat increasing. "Mypoint is that all we need to feel at home is the right people and theright time." She smiled at him and looked up at the stars thatreflected in her shinning eyes. "And do you feel at home rightnow?" Joe asked as she smiled again, a weird tension suddenlyhanging in the air. "I do." She replied as he stared into hergreen emerald eyes. He was mesmerized. Joe noticed her shivering andbeing the gentleman that he is, he took off his jacket and wrapped itaround her shoulders. She simply smiled and he was lost watching her again. She always hadthis effect on him.
"Whatare you thinking about?" She asked after a while, with a sillysmile. "Just you." The young man answered casually and a slightblush was showing on her cheek, as she now looked down to the floor."Oh really?" She replied, sending her a silly look. Joe suddenlyfelt a wave of nerves flash his body. The atmosphere had changedbetween them. "You know, I've never met anyone like you." Joeadmitted, trying to hide the growing smile on his lips. "And I'venever met anyone like you too." Melissa said, eyes locked onto him.But she hadn't interpreted the sentence like he would have wanted hertoo." You don't have the right to throw the ball back at me with myown sentences. Get your own pick-up lines." He teased, not caringabout the words coming out of his mouth, the alcohol running throughhis veins had probably something to do with that. Part of him wantedher to figure it out but another part of him didn't want to. She hithis arm playfully. "Was that supposed to be a pick-up line?" Shesaid with an amused expression on her face. Joe couldn't help thegrowing blush on his cheeks, he wasn't usually like this but withher, he felt like a teenager falling in love for the first time."Sort of." He shrugged and they looked at each other beforelaughing. "That was the worst pick-up line ever!" Sheadmitted, throwing her head back as she laughed. "No, it wasn't!Stop it." He ordered, nudging his shoulder with hers as he tried tokeep his glare serious. There always was this happiness filling himwhen she was there. Maybe she was all he needed. After their laughter, Joe lied down, putting his weight on his elbow, facing her. "But I'm serious though. You're so special, I hope youknow that." He admitted and she shook her head, blushing. He hadalways noticed how she couldn't take a compliment. "So are you.Isn't that why we're best friends?" She questioned and he gave hera warm smile before looking up at the sky again. Best friends. Thatwasn't enough, he was craving more of her.
SinceJoe was in the rush of the moment and the alcohol was burning in hisveins, helooked at her hand before taking it in his carefully, as if she wasmade of glass. She watched him with a confusing look but didn't pullaway. "I'm just trying something." He said before interlacingtheir fingers softly, the feeling of her cold hand sent shivers allover his body and he still couldn't understand how one single personcould make someone feel that many emotions. He noticed her blushing abit more and he found it adorable. She looked between their hands andhis face for a second and frowned. "Just wanted to know how itfeels to hold my best friend's hand." Joe exclaimed, feeling hisheart beat faster. There was something in the way their eyes met thistime that was different. "It feels good to me." She admitted, brushing her thumb against the back of his hand. "Yeah, it does."Joe replied and started to realize how close their faces actuallywere. It had to be now or never and just as Joe had made the firstmove and tilted his head closer to her, a drunk Jack stumbled his wayto them. They both immediately pulled away, putting a small distancebetween them so their friend wouldn't be suspicious of anything, eventhough he wouldn't probably remember anything anyway.
"Whatare you guys doing? You're missing out on the party!" Jackexclaimed, the alcohol definitely controlling his words. "We havetoo many parties." Melissa blurred out and it made the two boyslaugh. Joe dropped a kiss to the top of her head before getting up,his drink still in his hand. "Yeah but Jack's right. I'm the host, after all." He stated, smiling down at her. "I'll see you aroundthen." He said, watching Melissa as she smirked. "Of course, youwill, Joseph." She replied and he smiled at the full use of hisname. He would feel weird when others called him by his full name butwhen it was her, it was far from bothering him.
Joewatched Jack sit next to her and frowned as many questions poppedinto his mind. He waved it off before walking back into his own flat.
AsJack sat down next to Melissa, stealing Joe's spot, she looked down, taking in the previous actions and how close they both were to doingit. She smiled to herself, noticing that his jacket was still aroundher shoulders and tucking it closer to her body, enjoying his warmingscent. "So what's up with Joe?" Jack spoke up and made her jumpout of her thoughts. She looked at him and smiled. "Nothing. Whyare you asking?" She replied, trying to hide the growing blush onher face due to the feelings of Joe's touch still imprinted in herskin and probably the alcohol in her system.
"Youguys are sooooo close. You are definitely hooking up." Her eyesgrew wide at his words. Iwish, Shethought. It was obvious that Jack was wasted but he still somehowknew what he was talking about. "No, we are not. No more drinks foryou, young man!" She ordered, taking the drink from his hand beforehe could bring it to his lips. "Oi! Give it back!" Jack almostyelled, reaching out for it and she laughed watching him. "Come on,let's get back inside." She stated, getting up and reaching for hishand which he quickly took. "No, kiss me first." He said, leaningin towards her but she took a step back, almost falling off butJack's hands caught her before she did. And they were now so close. Before she could get out of his drunk tight grip, his lips were onhers and her eyes wide. The shock from the sudden action stopped herfrom any movement but when she did react, she quickly got off of himand sighed, watching how wasted he was and figured it must have beenbecause of the alcohol. He wouldn't even remember this. But shealmost dropped to the floor when her eyes landed on Joe watching themthrough the window, shaking his head and Melissa looked between himand Jack for a second.
Shewatched the door open and noticed Joe's change in attitude. "I needmy jacket." Joe said, coldly and her heart broke slightly at theharsh tone. The weight of his glare was not welcoming and charming atall anymore. "Joe." In the way she said his name, she hoped forhim to understand that it wasn't what she had wanted. "My jacket."He repeated, staying as distant as he could. She sighed and handedhis jacket back to him, the cold air hitting her bare arms. Joegrabbed it and walked back inside without saying a word, withoutleaving his eyes on her for a second. And Melissa stared at theclosed door for a minute. "What's wrong with him?" Jack asked, confusion itched across his face. The blonde girl sighed and startedhelping the very drunk Jack Maynard back into the house, afterdeciding that it would be better to just wait until the next day. Joewas all that she had ever wanted and this wouldn't change. And eventhough Jack would definitely not remember it, Joe for sure would.
Theday that followed, Melissa had tried to reach out to Joe but in vain.He wouldn't answer her calls, which was an unusual thing from him andit bothered her, a lot. But she hadn't planned it and Jack was one ofher best mates, that was all. She hadn't talked to him about it yetbecause he simply hadn't mentioned it. And so she decided to waituntil maybe, just maybe Joe would call her at one point.
