Loud laughter filling the air.

Extreme anger coursing through my young veins.

Why do they always do this to me?

A strong hand comes flying at my soft face.

My cheek stings a bright red as I snarl in pain.

Control your anger, don't fight back. It will all be okay.

Don't cry, not now.

Too late-- the salty tears race down my cheeks.

The man and woman roll their malicious eyes, their big arms crossing.

I shut my frightened eyes tight, my fists falling to my sides.

Don't retaliate, not now.

Let them leave you, as you slowly shut your door behind them, your hands shaking.

You crawl slowly into the bed that holds you tight and seems to protect you from their wrath at night.

Hush, child, it's alright now.

No more tears, no more fears.

For now, here, you are safe.
