After I saddle Lightning. I find my helmet and jacket. My parents aren't the only ones concerned with safety. But if I was any madder I would just sleep in the woods. I'll be back before dark but I still need all my gear.

Rosco, Sadie, Ginger and Tank are all watching me as I storm around the barn looking for my new boots. But shortly after are helping me look for my boots. Man my dogs are smart. In about 7 minutes we have found my boots, gloves, and my snack/emergency backpack. Which includes; water, trail mix, granola bars, dog biscuits, horse treats, first aid kit, flashlight, map that I don't even need, sunscreen, itch cream, emergency tent and sleeping bag, a whistle, and a pocket knife.

Lighting is getting pretty antsy with me so I decide I don't want anything else. So I put on my helmet, gloves, and boots. Write a quick note and tack it to my bulletin board. Throw my backpack on and unhook Lightning from his cross tie. I lead him out behind the barn to the path that leads to the open field. It's kinda big but you can see the woods on the other side of the field.

I hop up onto Lighting's back. He waits until I'm ready to go before be starts cantering. Rosco, Tank, Ginger, and Sadie are running after us. I'm glad my dogs love the woods too. Also that Lightning is fine that I ride him so fast and especially in the woods.

Normally horses hate the woods. But, Lightning is fine. He actually makes it interesting to ride in the woods. Sometimes he'll lead me to new trails I've never seen. But that was a long time ago, when we first bought the property.

I know every trail and even the non trails in the woods. I guess my ancestors loved the woods. At least enough to have them give us the last name Wood. And I'm just sorry that I don't live in the woods.

Anyways, we are entering the woods now. Deep breath in. Deep breath out. And breathe. I'm home. It smells like the woods and I love it. Fresh leaves crackle under Lighting's hooves. Amazing sound. One of the best in the world.

We are walking along for a while and I'm not really paying attention to where we are going. Just letting Lighting guide me. He knows the woods almost as well as me.

But it's getting dark now. Which is really weird because it's like 5:30 in the summer. We must of walked under one of the huge oak trees where Lighting and I rest and spend most of our days.

But there... aren't any big oaks around. Just a whole lot of pine and spruce really close together. Weird I've never been to this part of the woods. And I've been everywhere.

Oh well I guess I'll just head back now. I must be at the edge of the property.

" Come on Lighting time to head home."

But Lighting isn't stopping. He's not even listening to me. Just walking.

We stumble over some roots. And I fall.

I try to get up but my hand slips and...

           " AAAAHHHHHHHHHH"
