Chapter 2
As I'm finished with the stylists, I look like I did in pictures of me as a child. If it weren't for them, I wouldn't know my natural hair, eyes, or skin color. For this mission, I have long, white-blonde hair that reaches my butt, large blue eyes, and pale skin. The freckles that use to cover me have long since disappeared.
My fashion this time is actually the style I always wanted wear in my free time. Cute dresses and skirts with matching blouse's and leather jackets. Hmm. I guess Mason likes this or I wouldn't be wearing it. I quickly walk to the lobby to gather my suitcases someone already packed for me. I never know what's in them so sometimes I get little surprises like Twizzlers or KitKat's from the crew that packs.
When I reach the lobby, Ryker and Alek are already waiting for me with a cellphone in their hands. As I approach them, Ryker hands me mine and shows me all of my social profiles that have been created. It looks as though my other self, Violet, truly exists.
"So we're all boarding our flight to Washington D.C. in an hour?" I ask.
Ryker nods at me before he walks outside the building to get our car. "So Alek, what are you doing here? At this company?" I ask the boy, breaking the ice, and he looks at me sadly.
"My parents died a few years ago, they worked here. The man before Eddy took me in and trained me to be one of their con men. That's when I met Ryker." He looks at me for a second and draws his eyebrows together in confusion. "I've heard a lot about you. You aren't like what people descibe you."
I laugh at him. "Oh honey, you can drop the sad, naive boy act. I'd think if you were trained as well as I've heard the stylists say, you'd be a better liar. As for what people say about me, it's mostly true and you know it." I wink at him as I pick up two of my suitcases and I hear him laughing behind me.
"Okay, Okay, you got me." He flashes me a smile and I can't help but to start liking him. "Just so you know, I lie much much better than that." I snort at him as Ryker helps us sit our bags in the trunk.
"So, you two already know eachother?" I ask them as we finish up packing the car and get inside.
Ryker looks at me from across the drivers seat. I called shotgun so Alek had to sit in the back. "Yeah, I met him when he was about 13 years old. Helped him with the pshysical part of training but he's not anywhere skilled in that area. Kid has a lot of brains and can get basically anyone to do anything."
I glance back at Alek to see him smiling with pride. I turn back to Ryker, "What about you? You a killer or a manipulator?"
"Well sweetheart, if you must know, I'm the guy they call when they need someone taken care of, quickly. I have never been on a long term mission like you have. But to answer your question, yeah I'm the killer. I do the fast and simple work." He has no emotion when he talks and it's hard for me to process. The guy looks like a big teddy bear, not a murderer.
"What about you?" Alek asks from the back.
I take a deep breath. "I'm who they call when they need someone to seduce and stab. Well, not always stab but ya get the point. I make the target fall in love with me then, when I get the okay, I end their lives because of something they may or may not know. Usually, they only die so someone close to them that actually knows something will hurt." I shrug like it's nothing but Ryker keeps pushing.
"I heard through the grapevine that the last mission you had with a partner cost his life and our boss'. That true?" He keeps his eyes on the road as he asks.
"Does it really matter whether I tell you if it's true or not?"He laughs at this.
"No, it doesn't. Mostly because I saw you shoot him right between the eyes after screaming at him." I willed myself to stay unemotional and casual but I felt like I was breaking.
I take a deep breath and look at him. "It was my test of loyalty. My partner was. Every agent has one. I'm sure yours was just as bad as me killing my partner." I spit my words at him so he'd know my hurt and he nodded.
"They made me kill my best friend. He was like a brother to me. We were both young and it was our first mission. He was an agent too. His family was murdered in front of him and I had to kill him for absolutely no reason. He had a younger sibling, but he never spoke about them." Again, his words had no emotion. I think it's his mask.
"I had to kill my partner because he loved me." I say barely in a whisper. Ryker must have heard me because he looked away from the road and met mine.
I notice that his appearance didn't even change. Alek's did drastically though. Instead of wild wavy blonde hair, he now had short brown hair to match Ryker's. "Why do you look the same as before?" I ask him in a louder voice.
He gives his attention back to the road. "Because they don't care whether someone recognizes me or not. I'm not important to them. Just another pawn for them to play with." His words were laced with hatred and suddenly he reminded me of Weston.
We didn't speak for the rest of the drive to the airport. When we boarded the plane and it started to fly, we still didn't exchange any words. The staff at the airport that checked luggage and the people, know of us. Whenever they see us they ignore the weapons we bring.
I spend half the flight going over my file, Ryker's file, and Alek's file. Rykers temporary name was Skylar while Alek's was Evan. My new name is Violet. I use the other half to acquaint myself with our targets.
When we touch down, Ryker turns to me. "So, do you have any ideas to why we're actually doing a mission?" I cock my head sideways to him. "I mean, Everytime you have a mission, it's not the target's fault."
I raise an eyebrow, still confused. He groans. "Like, lets say that last mission with a partner you had. Your target was that boy even though he didn't know anything. You were only killing him so that his father would break down and become unstable. Right?"
I nod at him slowly. "Well, I can't help but be curious as to whose heart we're breaking now."
I stay silent for a moment until I realize that Alek's asleep. I point at him and Ryker chuckles deeply. "He has perfect memory. Never forgets anything. He probably read over the files in the car." With that he gets up to wake Alek and they both leave me to go get their luggage.
Once I catch up with them, we hail a taxi and make our way to the new home that will be ours for the next several months.
