Melissa slumped into her seat and put her earphones in as she tried to block out the annoying people around her. She was on the bus going to school. This was her first day and she could already tell that she would hate it. Her mom got a fancy new job at a fancy new company in a fancy new town with fancy new houses and a fancy new school. As Melissa looked out her window she thought that everything looked old. The houses were ginormous. They were so far apart that her nearest neighbors were both 1 mile away. She didn't mind that, though. The isolation made her feel safe. It was just her, mom, and dad.

The bus pulled up to school, and everybody started glumly filing off the bus. She was the last to get off the bus, and the bus driver said "Good luck, kid." Melissa just shrugged and trudged to the office to get her schedule. The way too perky, birdlike, secretary shoved the paper at Melissa never breaking the smile plastered from her face. She found her locker and put her things in it. She made her way to her first class; biology.

Melissa sat in the very back corner. The teacher, Mrs. Kraler, came in and said that the students would be getting partners for the rest of the year so they will be moving seats. "Great" Melissa thought. She ended up having to sit next to what seemed to be the loudest guy in the whole universe. His name was Jeff. He had sandy hair dark brown hair that slightly covered his chocolate eyes. He didn't have muscles but he had a nice enough body from the looks of him. He tried talkong to Melissa.

"So, you're new, right? It's your first day?" Jeff asked. Melissa just nodded. She wasn't looking for conversation.

"Where did you move from?" He asked, those delicious eyes peircing into hers. Melissa wanted to look away but couldn't bring herself to do it.

     "Uhm, Seattle." She mumbled.

"Ah, that explains why yoou're so pale. Well, down here in sunny California you're bound to get some sun on that pretty face." Jeff cooed. He winked at Melissa causing her to slightly blush.

The bell rang 25 minutes later and Melissa was gathering her stuff to go when Jeff spoke again. "So, do you have a lunch partner yet? I'd be happy to sit with you."

"I guess so." Melissa said. She walked away calmly, but she didn't realize until she got to her next class that she was smiling from ear to ear.

The bell for lunch rang and Melissa began to feel anxious. She went to her locker and put her books away. Jeff came and leaned against the one beside it. He crossed his arms and shook the hair out of his eyes. "Hey, doll. Ready for lunch?" He said the left side of his mouth raised into a grin.

Melissa just nodded and started to walk. They found a table and sat. Jeff pulled out a chair for Melissa motioning for her to sit. Once she did he sat himself but would'nt start eating until she started. He was being quite the gentleman. He did most of the talking. Describing the school, the teachers, the horribly orange looking girls that pretended to eat at a table across the room. Jeff started to imitate the girls. "OH MY GOD. THERE IS A PICKLE ON MY SANDWICH. DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY CALORIES ARE IN A PICKLE? TWO. I'M NOT EATING THIS."

This cause Melissa to laugh, something she hasn't done in months. Jeff had a small smile on his face. "So, she can laugh! I thought getting that amazing smile on your face was going to be a lot harder!" Jeff said, acting relieved.

Lunch ended, unfortunately, but Jeff promised Melissa they would sit together tomorrow. He walked her back to her locker. The bell rang and they went opposite directions. Melissa thought she saw Jeff linger around her locker a bit longer but shook it off. The day slowly came to a close and Melissa opened her locker to see a note flutter down to the floor. The outside said: DONT OPEN UNTIL YOU GET ON THE BUS.  Melissa threw everything in her locker, grabbed her things and dashed for the bus. She sat in the first empty seat there was and opened the paper. The not said:

Hey, babe! I've been writing this since this morning in Bio. That's the first time I noticed you. And I'm so excited that I get to be your partner. (I should thank Mrs. Kraler for putting me with someone so amazing.) I just wanted you to know that when you have that scowl on your face it takes away from your beauty. I saw that true beauty today at lunch.  Your smile is beautiful and you don't seem to do it often. You should. Anyways I  pretty much wrote this to let you know that I think you're pretty awesome even though I've only known you for one day! Okay. I really hope this works or else this part of the note is completely ruined. Look out your window. Right.......NOW

Melissa's head snapped up and Jeff was standing there on the other side of the glass. He held a sign that read "YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL! DON'T LET ANYBODY TELL YOU DIFFERENT!" Jeff blew a kiss and the bus drove off. Melissa's smile was a mile wide. She was so happy she didn't even try to hide the smile. Who knew that the first day of school could be so amazing.

A/N: If you actually read this I just want to thank you. This is my first story on here ever! So, if you want me keep writing it then comment!!! OH AND THIS STORY IS COPYRIGHTED SO YOU CANT STEAL IT (not that anyone would want to anyways) :) xx -Jennie
