Forgiveness

Forgiveness is another word that can define it.

The forgiveness Gabi and I should have shared months ago. I couldn’t help but wonder what would have been of the past year, if we just came to terms with the fact that Josh was playing us both.

I opened my eyes and looked outside the window. We weren’t parked in my driveway anymore, far from it actually. We were at our usual half way stop. As the trip to the snow took seven hours from our home in Sydney, we had to stop somewhere. We would stop at this old pie shop in Canberra, the owners knew us well, and always greeted us cheerfully. I opened the door and slid out of the car, closing it behind me.

The cold wind hit my skin like a thousand knives. I quickly walked across the small old car park to the glass door that had been decorated with winter snowflakes. They theme it every year and so far I’ve never seen them do the same again. I pushed lightly on the door and walked in.

The cold air got sucked away as the door closed.

‘Jessie!’ Bethany the old lady who owns the place said.

‘Hello, how are you.’ I said bending down and kissing her on the cheek.

Bethany is a very small Italian lady, her real name is Bethanio, but we just call her Bethany. She has the smallest black curls but has the biggest smile which is always out.

‘Very good, now, come, have a seat with your meraviglioso family.’

‘Meraviglioso?’

‘It mean marvellous, my dear, now, come.’ She said taking my hand and dragging me to the table.

For a small, cute woman she can be very pushy. As I was being put in my seat by Bethany, we past the kitchen where Antonio, Bethany’s husband was cooking fresh pie’s.

‘Ciao.’  I said smiling at him.

‘Ciao my bellezza!’ he said happily.  When I was five and we came here for the first time Antonio said Ciao to be a number of times. I asked him what it meant and we made up our own little greeting. The only Italian words I know how to say is hello, Ciao and Beauty, bellezza.

I sat down at the table and smiled at everyone. Gabi’s eyes were down at the ground.

‘Did you sleep well beautiful…’ my dad said smiling at me. He had taken off his ridiculous beanie now, so his bold head was exposed.

‘As well as you can sleep in a car.’

‘That’s good, what pie do you want dear?’ my mum said chiming in.

‘Potato.’

‘Antonio, one potato pie please.’ She said smiling at him.

‘Potato pie for the bellezza, coming right up!’

‘Grazes!’ my mum yelled. ‘Jess, make sure you go to the bathroom before we leave.’

‘Yeah, yeah, do I look five?’ I said

‘Possibly.’ Gabi said. My dad gave her a tone it down look.

‘I’m just trying to look after you…’ my mum said

‘Thank-you I guess…’

‘No problem.’ She said happily again.

Once I had finished eating my delicious potato pie, I made sure I went to the bathroom and then went back to the car. Of course all after I said goodbye to Bethanio and Antonio.

I opened the Mercedes door and slid in. I looked over the seats at my parents who were not in the car yet and then at Gabi, who was death staring me.

‘What?’  I asked

‘Let’s just make this clear, I love josh and he loves me. So can you back off, and not get in the way of our love!’

I started to laugh, which made her even angrier.

‘Your 16, what do you know about love?’

‘Exactly, I’m 16! I’m not a little 10 year old crushing on some boy who brought me an ice-cream! I know what love is, I feel what love is, why can’t you just accept it, Josh and I love each other!’

‘FINE!’ i screamed

‘Fine what?’

‘Fine, you can have him, just enjoy having josh rather than a sister.’ I said grabbing my iphone earplugs and putting them in.

‘Please, I haven’t had a sister since last year; does it look like I care? It wouldn’t even bother me if you were never born.’

I was shocked at what she said. Holding back my tears I clicked on the song starships and put it up full blast. Trying to push the past sentence that Gabi just said out of my mind and just focusing on the lyrics.

Hey guys, sorry its so short but i didn't think it was worth writing about the scenery on the drive to the snow. I hope you are all enjoying it! Thank-you so much Unrealistic_Dreamer for your feedback, i really appreciate it, and i hope you not as confused now. :)
