A TYPICAL NIGHT for Shay McCall usually consisted of five things- a shower, homework, dinner, scrolling aimlessly through lonely feed on social media, and then bed. On rare occasion, Shay would have a conversation or two with her twin brother, Scott, or her busy nurse of a mother, until her brother would work out vigorously for a lacrosse career he'll never have, and her mother left for the night shift she always seemed to pick up. But on a really seldom occurrence, one that maybe happened once every blue moon, Shay would be invited on one of the many adventures of Scott and his rambunctious best friend, Stiles Stilinski.
Stiles Stilinski. Real name unpronounceable, energy almost unnatural, and good looks unimaginable. Stiles always found a way to get her asthmatic older twin into trouble, and herself occasionally. The nights the two invited Shay along for the trip in Stiles's battered blue jeep were the best nights, not only for the adventure, but the time Shay got to spend with one of the most attractive, talented, comical, dreamy boys alive....
Shay may have a crush on her brother's best friend..
That crush was where her mind always was, and currently was, pondering while she laid in bed, staring aimlessly at the ceiling until she managed to pass out from boredom, the full moon light leaking through the window, casting shadows along the walls.
Shadows... from what??
Hands gripped her arms, preventing her from thrashing, then her mouth, leaving her scream to come out as whisps of air through the cracks of fingers, a muffled noise behind a smothering palm. Her brown eyes swept up frantically to her attacker(s), and even in the dimly lit room, she knew exactly who they were.
Eyes narrowed, Shay dislodged the hand restraining her arm and yanked the wrist of the hand on her mouth, casting it none too gently aside before sitting up with a scowl.
"Scott! Stiles! What the hell are you two doing?!" Shay shouted without bother for the amount of noise she made. Her mother was long since at the hospital by now.
The two boys exchanged a look over her head.
Suddenly, without warning, Scott flails (which is usually a Stiles thing, but she'll go with it) and shouts, "We're going to look for a dead body!" before the other boy's hand clamps on his mouth with an overexagerated "shhhh" sound.
Shay sits up properly, pushing a length of dark brown hair from her face, unamused by their dynamic. The two best friends often do crazy things, but Shay had to admit, a dead body was a first.
"Let me guess, you listened to your dad's police radio again." Shay addresses the lanky teen next to her brother, barely avoiding a blush when his eyes meet her own.
Stiles makes a few unrelated gestures before whisper- shouting, "Duhh." and Shay has to keep herself from doing something stupid like marrying him or something.
With a light nod, Shay glances between the sophomores. "Okay."
"Okay?" Stiles repeats with a hopeful expression.
Shay grins. "I'm in."

The woods lay beyond just about every household in Beacon Hills. Tree after tree after foliage, it left nothing to be man-made, the only lighting coming from the moon, usually leaving them to be poorly lit. Tonight, however, was a different case as the full moon overhead shone like the sun, lighting up every fallen leaf below their feet as Shay and the boys scurried along, in search of a body- or should it be stated-
"Half of a body??" Shay quickly made an effort to quiet her voice as the question echoed through the trees. "How could you neglect to tell me we're actually searching for half of a body?"
