"OK, LET'S SEE THIS thing."Stiles Stilinski rubbed his hands together in anticipation where he stood by the bike rack with Shay McCall, waiting for Scott McCall to arrive. Shay rolled her eyes before glancing around the quad, making certain no one was watching them before reluctantly yanking the red sleeve of her shirt to reveal her heavily gauzed and bitten shoulder.
The Stilinski boy's intelligent eyes bulged at the sight before exclaiming, "Whoa!"
Shay scoffed, with another amused eye roll. "Yeah. Whoa." Shay's brown orbs flicked around the pair before she leaned in a little to the boy next to her, dropping her voice a few octaves. "It was too dark to see much, but I'm pretty sure it was a wolf."
Stiles's eyebrows shot up to meet the hairline of his buzz cut.
Adorable buzz cut, in Shay's mind..
"A wolf bit you?" Stiles asked her disbelievingly, a sceptical expression painted across his features.
"Uh - huh." She nodded, and he matched her nod with a shake of his head.
"No, not a chance." he dismissed, his own eyes wandering, wondering where the other McCall was on his motorbike. It didn't usually take him this long to arrive.
Shay sputtered indignantly, regaining the other's attention. "I heard a wolf howling." She pointed out, like it proved her statement as she fiddled with a button on her shirt front.
"No, you didn't." he shot down the claim like it was nothing, his gaze on her shirt front, quickly adverting his eyes once she looked up.
"What do you mean, no, I didn't?" She narrowed her eyes, crossing her arms. "How do you know what I heard?"
Stiles rolled his eyes as if it were obvious, flailing his arms exaggeratedly. "Because California doesn't have wolves, okay?" He pondered the fact before adding, "Not in like 60 years."
Shay shook her head, shuffling her feet. "Well yeah, I know that." She huffed, before adverting her gaze to the pavement, furrowing her eyebrows. "Or at least I thought I did. I'm telling you, Stiles, this was a wolf."
Stiles frowned at the McCall. "There are no wolves in California." he insisted.
Scott strolls up at that moment, frowning at the two before gesturing to the space between them. "Is this about our wolf bites?"
Stiles throws his hands up in exasperation. "I'm telling you guys- they're not wolf bites! You were probably attacked by some mountain lions or something."
"And I'm telling you I know what I felt and I know what I heard- they're wolf bites!" Shay countered.
Scott stepped in, a placating hand between the two bickering sophomores. "Like an old married couple." he thought, amused.
His attention turned to Stiles. "All right, well, if you don't believe us about the wolf, then you're definitely not gonna believe me when I tell you I found the body."
Shay and Stiles's eyebrows shoot up in sync, disbelief written across their faces. "You - are you kidding me?" they asked in unison.
Scott shook his head, oblivious to their antics. "No, but I wish. I'm gonna have nightmares for a month."
Stiles gestures wildly, positively pleased by this information. "Oh, god, that is freakin' awesome. I mean, this is seriously gonna be the best thing that's happened to this town since -"
Shay gazes dreamily at the other boy, taking in the way he flails faster and more frequently when he's excited, the way his soft pink lips hardly move with his mile-a-minute rambling. Suddenly, he catches something across the quad behind Shay, all gesturing stopping along with his sentence, breaking Shay from her trance.
