It has been almost a month since Regina came home. She returned to work a few days after she was released. David accompanied her, and showed her the daily things she had done. An old Colleague was called in to help with the show, as Regina was unable to do so efficiently. She wouldn't have her friend's show fail, simply because she had forgotten herself.
David had been patient and kind, showing her photos and videos. He took her to their favorite places. Nothing seemed to jog her memory. Regina was so troubled and torn, this Man clearly loved her, and she believed from what she had seen, that she once loved him too. She just didn't feel it now. She wanted to give him something in return, but didn't want to lead him on.
Regina was jogged from her thoughts as Maleficent entered her office. Regina nearly leapt into her arms. She was so appreciative of all Maleficent had done. It seemed strange that she was told they hadn't known one another long. Maleficent seemed to know exactly what Regina needed. She didn't try to force her to remember, and Regina needed that so badly. There was no guilt for it with the Woman, as their was with David.
Maleficent hugged her, and placed a small kiss on her cheek. "You're looking well, Regina." She smiled, as she sat, and motioned for Regina to do the same. Regina did so, while scanning the demeanor of the Woman in front of her. She was beautiful. She was more than beautiful actually. Maleficent picked up on the energy coming from Regina, and smirked. Regina have a shy smile, knowing she was caught. "What do I owe the pleasure, Mal?" Maleficent was taken aback, she tilted her head, and mouthed the name she had just been called. "Mal? That's new." Regina looked shy. "Is that okay?" "Of course, Dear. It's just different. How is David adjusting?" Regina's face strained, as she shifted uncomfortably in her chair. She signed. "He's trying so hard, and I remember nothing. I feel nothing. He's been so attentive, and patient. I just can't get there with him. The way I am with you." Regina was stunned the words came out of her mouth. She didn't understand what was happening. Maleficent's heart was pounding in her chest. She was trying to keep her face neutral, but knew the crimson lines were creeping her cheeks. Regina sat silent, and still, waiting. Her eyes met Maleficent's and both Women lingered there, locked on one another, until they had to look away.
"David is wonderful. I know he cares for you deeply. Whatever happens from here though, you can't feel guilty or responsible for. You were injured, and you're trying to recover. Focus on that." Regina exhaled, closing her eyes, trying to remember the breathing techniques she was taught to calm her nerves. "Thank you, Maleficent. You do always seem to know just what to say."
Maleficent frowned, "I prefer Mal." Regina looked up and noticed the wink from beneath her ball cap. Her eyes were twinkling. Her make up minimal. In simple overalls, with a white tank top. The matching Vans somehow highlighted the long, slender legs, attached to the enchanting woman before her. Regina was quickly brought back to her thoughts when Mal began to speak. "I am heading over to the old studio to pick up a few things for the place I'm working here. You went with me once." She smiled as she pointed to the painting of Robert Johnson that hung behind Regina's desk. "You fell in love with this one. I forced you to take it. You love that musician. I was wondering if you'd like to accompany me." Regina's heart was pounding in her chest. "I would love that. Maybe it'll jog something." Maleficent smiled, "Perhaps. I didn't ask for that reason though. I just wanted your company." Regina smiled, blushing. "I'll grab my coat."
Regina commented on the car, as she had previously. The trip was so similar, it almost felt like dejavu for Mal. She didn't mind though. She was happy watching Regina relive the fun, they'd once had, that was all new to her. Regina was stunned when they pulled in. She remarked on the graffiti, lovingly. Mal admired her, admiring art. Yet again, thinking that Regina was the art to be admired. She shook herself from the deadlock grip on Regina her eyes had. The last thing Regina needed was for her to complicate things further.
"I'm going to head in, come when you're ready." Regina turned, smiled, and followed behind her friend. As she walked in, she was blown away by the colors that were covering everything. She immediately eyed the record player, and walked over. She knew she loved music, one of the few things that she had found solace in since waking to this new version of life. She was fumbling through the records when she stumbled upon Adele. She gasped, and asked Mal if she could put it on.
Soon the euphoria of "Rolling In The Deep" was wafting through the studio. Regina with eyes closed, hugging herself, humming along. Mal was transfixed. Regina was stunning. Every movement so sexy, without attempt. The way she moved her hips to the beat, had the woman in full tremble. With all of her strength, she turned away, and began to gather the supplies she needed.
She stopped in her tracks when she felt a hand on the small of her back. Electricity shooting through her core. She inhaled sharply, and turned to see Regina standing dangerously close. Regina looking at her with playful intensity as she held a bottle of Jack Daniels in her hand. Maleficent smiled at her. "Feeling feisty, I see!" Regina laughed. "When in Rome." She shook the bottle at Maleficent. The artist grabbed two coffee mugs and poured them each a shot. "Here's to Round 2!" She and Regina clinked glasses and threw the liquid back. It burned almost as much as the desire in Maleficent's eyes. "We went out for drinks once. Shortly after we met, in fact. It was a fun night, but a rough morning." Regina smiled longingly. "I don't remember, but I imagine it was a wonderful time. I always have a good time with you." Mal smiled, turning to continue to gather supplies.
A few moments later, she and Regina were on shot number three. Regina was asking loads of questions about the art around her. Mal was lounging lazily on the small twin bed in the back of the studio. Regina moved around the room, asking about the pieces that struck her. When Regina was satisfied, she walked toward Mal to join her on the bed. Something caught her eye behind it, and she leaned over the Woman beneath her, her chest rubbing against Mal's. "What's this hiding back here?!" Mal tried to grab her hand, but was a moment too late. Her head was spinning, not from the booze, as much as the feel of the Woman above her. Regina's eyes lit up, as she brought it into her view. Mal pulled herself up, biting her lip, bracing for the worst.
Regina sighed. It was her. Her eyes. Broken pieces of smaller art, surrounding twinkling, brown eyes. They looked like that had such life, such history, such love. So much to tell. Regina began to tear up. She looked at Maleficent, stroking the painting. "Is this what I looked like before? Alive. With purpose." Mal's heart broke. She stood slowly, taking the painting from the Woman before her. She studied it silently for a moment. Tracing the eyes on the canvas in her hands. Regina was crying now. "Yes, Dear. I painted this the night after we came here. Your eyes were so full of love and admiration, so passionate for all things in your life. I was inspired." Regina hugged herself closely, tears burning her throat. "But that doesn't mean this still isn't you, Regina. You're still the beautiful, passionate, inspiring, large hearted Woman painted here. Regina turned from her, allowing the sob to come silently from her throat. "It isn't. I don't know that person. My eyes are dead. I remember nothing. I know so little. I'm merely existing."
