Chapter 13

I trembled as I picked up my phone. Harvey got me a new one, and out in frequency blockers to keep my calls safe.

Oh god Im so damn nervous hes gonna kill me. Like, I forgot excuse me friend its been a while. My mind is reeling as I slowly dial in the numbers.

It began to ring and I nervously looked at my new office, it had been cleaned and was only having a desk plus in it, the one Im at looking like a sweating creep.

"Hello?"

I tried to calm myself "Hello, its been a while huh?" I tried to chuckle at the end, god I sound nervous.

Sweat poured dowb my face as silence instilled on the other end.

"HOE, HOW COULD YOU FUCKING-" I jumped and began to try and calm him down.

"Dj I know-" I tried to say but he cut me off.

"IM YOUR BEST FRIEND, ITS BEEN FOREVER AND NOW YOU TALK TO ME RANDOMLY?! YOU HAVE EXPLAINING TO DO!" he screamed and my heart hammered.

This is my best friend Dj, from a long time ago. Childhood friends actually. I stopped talking to him about 2 years ago when my mother took away my phone, and wouldnt buy another.

"I need you." and he was quiet for a moment.

"Are you still in Gotham?"

"Yes. Ill explain to you later, just please move here with me. I beg of you. Ill book you a plane and everything, please Dj." he was quiet and I knew he was thinking about it.

"I cant do this without my best friend."

He was quiet "okay."

I was shocked. "Wait, youll come?!" I asked excitedly.

He sighed on the other end "Yes."

I squealed happily and bounced in my seat just as Harvey walked in. He gave me a confused look and i put my finger to my lips in a 'shh' motion.

He nodded and stood there patienly. In listened to Dj chat to me for another 30 minutes. I planned out the tickets and stuff plus where he would be staying.

"Ill be bringing you here as soon as possible. So youll be getting on a flight tomorrow to here. 10:30am dont miss it. You wont be leaving here either so pack heavy. Your ticket is online. Just say my name, youre in first class." and I heard him gasp. He growled and I hung up before he could respond.

I sighed and Harvey snickered. I know I look like a sweaty mess right now. Good think Dj cant call me back, this number was private.

I got on my phone and automatically began to book him a flight here. 10:30 is perfect, so he should get here at night which is how I want it. Its more safe, easier to conceal him.

I know one thing for sure, and its that Im worried for my life when he gets off that plane.

"So Harvey, what was it?" I asked and he relaxed a little.

"Its been a week since we got here. The guys are almost finished up. So lets go surprise them." he said excitedly and my face lit up. Thats perfect!

"Dude lets throw a giant dinner! Its like 9 in the morning now! We should be able to cook in enough time!" and he nodded.

I jumped up and ran out of the room. Harvey followed close behind as I formulated a plan. One of the old buildings had been installed with a large kitchen in it. Id say that was the dining room! So I just need to keep them busy.

All my men were in the main room looking around. I gathered their attention "ALRIGHT GUYS!" they jumped and looked at me.

"One last task! Well two. I need you to go ahead and find your rooms and decorate them! We will buy you all beds soon and Im sorry to say you might need to find a bunk buddy, cause we arent gonna let you live on the street!" they looked bewhildered.

"B-But joker never gave us homes!" one man cried out and I looked at them softly.

"This is your home now. Im not joker. Welcome home boys!" and I blushed seeing their looks of admiration. I would of course give them a home. Its human.

Kindness works better for loyalty than fear. I know none of these guys have betrayed me.

"So I need you to also not go in building 3, you cant go in there when I come back, but I need to go to town for a little bit. Ill be back, be finding a room buddy, Thank ya guys!" and I smiled as they all nodded.

They filed out into the hallways and Harvey and I walked outside. "John!" said man looked at me. "Can I borrow your car? Please I promise I wont bust it up!"

He looked uneasy but nodded and I smiled and hugged him. "Oh and dont go in building 3 today plus go look for a bunk buddy you might need one. Welcome home, John." I smiled at him and he looked surprised.

"Thank you." he said grateful and I ga e him a sweet smile and walked to his van. It was a Volvo I think.

Yes now OFF TO THE STORE!

"OH MY GOD, THAT WAS EXHAUSTING!" I sighed. I had to buy about 4 turkeys 3 bags of chicken, 14 cans of greenbeans and soooo many cans of fruits and vegetables. I even bought about 4 cakes for desert. Chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, and marble. I so owe Harvey for doing this with me.

It took us at least 6 or 7 hours to cook it all but it was worth it. We bought about 6 tables since one large could fit about 20 people. We disnt need chairs since we found those stored away in building 2. Oh this will be good.

I was proud of the decor, I put up little lights everywhere. It was amazing. It was dark out now and I put the last plate of food on the stand. It looked like a buffet house. I planned to have this at least once a month.

I walked to the main building and looked in. Most of my men were in there either watching tv sitting on the floor or playing cards.

"Go get the rest of them men please," I said to one and he went to get them. I smiled, this would be an amazing surprise. I knew they must be hungry after all this, even though they all got takeout after a day of work.

I saw my guy come back in with the last of the people and spoek loudly "hey guys! Thank you for not going in building 3! Please come with me to it but dont enter yet." and with that we walked to the building.

I so appreciate the landscapers for putting a rock path so we wouldnt walk in mud. I stood outside the large doors and looked at my men.

They all looked tired but curious nonetheless. I smiled and they looked even more so. "Okay so firstly, thank you all for helping, I appreciate us all getting this place up and running. So I made a surprise for you." they looked excited and I said one last thing "just be orderly and dont push or shove! Welcome in boys!" and opened the doors.

I sat down with a plate amd looked around. Everyone looked extremely happy with the foord amd Im glad, Im sure they havent had food like this in forever. I have to remember that they loved the pineapples alot. As I watched them happily eat and comp down I smiled, because this was a perfect moment.

I may be crazy, but yknow what, fuck the insanity for a bit. These guys deserve it and so do I. They deserve sweetness in their life right now. And I know I have their full loyalites.
